> Not too mention his photo and good name were destroyed on TV and print news agencies across the globe.
Exactly.
> I have not heard any news that the kid was innocent, that would not be news worthy
Not only not news worthy, but it would show how corrupt police are when it comes to drugs. It also shows how poorly police toys fair at discriminating between illegal drugs and something else... the dog claimed there were drugs; oops, guess drug dogs aren't so good. The cops smells drugs; oops, guess cops noses aren't so good. The cops field test detected drugs; oops, guess the field tests aren't real accurate. The normally mild sheep tend to get pissed when they learn that the shepards think of themselves as wolves.

God, I was so going to comment on the lack of any solid evidence, but didn't bother.
A dog and a field test, assuradly, are worthless.
Especially on a complex mixture, like a cookie, and not a powder with a few things in it, a test like an lsd test is worthless.
They use simple acids and watch the reactions.
What crap.
Why arrest him? Just hold the cookies and arrest if they get solid evidence.
Bullshit.

the dog claimed there were drugs
The Barry Cooper DVD "Never Get Busted" has a great section where Barry demonstrates how he can make a dog alert on command any time he wants and on any object he wants. He says that it's a common practice when a cop "knows" there are drugs, though nobody talks about it.
Same goes for cop noses. How many of us have had our car searched because the cop "smells marijuana" and so has probable cause even if we refuse.
We live in a fucked up world.

Man falsely accused of delivering drug-laced cookies says his character was assassinated
link
Christian Phillips endured derisive comments and cruel jokes from around the globe about his intelligence, spent 54 hours in jail and had his arrest "mug shot" plastered across newspapers and television – all for an alleged crime that police now acknowledge he did not commit.
The 18-year-old Watauga man was cleared Thursday of allegations that he delivered drug-tainted chocolate-chip cookies to the Lake Worth police station.
"I felt like a lot of people made a lot of assumptions about me," Mr. Phillips said Friday during an interview near downtown Fort Worth. "A lot of facts were thrown up in the air. I got my character assassinated. I was telling the truth the whole time.
"I feel like the system was unfair," he said. "Before you arrest someone and blow my name in the media, get the facts straight."
Lake Worth Police Chief Brett McGuire said he regrets the perception that his department was overzealous in arresting Mr. Phillips.
"We were trying to make sure they went by the books," Chief McGuire said. "We consulted with the district attorney. We went by the book. We did everything aboveboard."
Lake Worth police arrested Mr. Phillips on Tuesday after he dropped off a basket of cookies at the station as part of his community service requirement in an unrelated case. Mr. Phillips had also delivered cookies to several other North Texas police agencies.
A Lake Worth police field test indicated the cookies were positive for LSD, officials said at the time. Inside Mr. Phillips' car parked at police headquarters, a narcotics dog detected marijuana residue and police found a scale, Chief McGuire said. No charges have been filed in connection with those findings, and Mr. Phillips' Fort Worth attorney, L. Patrick Davis, would not allow his client to discuss them Friday.
Mr. Phillips was charged with tampering with a consumer product, a felony. He was held at the Lake Worth jail on $75,000 bail.
After Mr. Phillips had spent more than two days in custody, the Tarrant County medical examiner's office said lab results indicated the cookies were negative for drugs. Lake Worth police released him from jail late Thursday afternoon and allowed him to slip out the back door to avoid the media glare, Mr. Davis said.
"I never put anything in those cookies," Mr. Phillips said Friday. "I did not smoke or do any kind of marijuana around those cookies. Why would I do that?"
Glenn Phillips, who accompanied his son Friday, said he was "totally bewildered" when he learned that Christian was in jail. He said he learned more about his son's ordeal from media accounts than from police.
For days, he said, his son was the subject of ridicule, the butt of jokes and called a derelict.
"Somebody said he was a terrorist," said Glenn Phillips, a soldier in the U.S. Army who is awaiting deployment to Afghanistan next month. "I thank God for intervening here and saving my son from 20 years to life in prison."
Christian Phillips said he carried out his community service with good intentions.
On Monday, he baked batches of the pre-packaged Toll House cookies, wrapped them in foil and placed them into baskets for delivery to several police agencies. Two friends were at his home during the baking, he said.
"I cooked them on a stone tablet," he said. "I had a couple. My dad had a couple."
Blue Mound police officers said the cookie basket they received "reeked" of marijuana. They warned other agencies, including Lake Worth, about the gift they had received.
Christian Phillips said his arrest came as he was nearing the end of the "Cookies for Cops" program he performed on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He entered the program as part of court-approved community service after his arrest last July on a charge of assaulting a police officer. That charge was reduced to simple assault, a misdemeanor.
He still plans to live up to his agreement and complete his service to MADD. However, he is not sure what his new assignment will be. But those close to him know what it won't be.
"He will not deliver cookies," Mr. Davis said.

Justice means nothing today Now that the courts are for sale Pick a crime from the menu, pick a sentence and defend you And pick up the down payment called bail The system's for sale
Justice means nothing today Now that the jury's for sale Guilty or not, the verdict's a lie You're going to jail The system has failed

allowed him to slip out the back door? intriguing....
if i was him i would at least face the media to try to clear my name; at least tell them the lab results and tell them what a terrible job the police did in handling the situation.

Christian, if you ever read this, and I hope someone will invite you to, you MUST NOT allow the cops to get away with this. Punish them! And change the system thereby! Court actions are the only way policies get changed in an executive branch run by bigots!
Fuckin' cops, chocolate chip cookies don't smell anything like marijuana. Why do they think everything smells like marijuana? How can we let them take CLOSED TESTIMONY from their uninformed NOSES anyway???!?
I look at every unjust arrest as an opportunity for court action that will change the unjustness that led to the arrest. I've been arrested twice for marijuana possession in Arizona, twice charged with two felonies, (one, a charge for possession of paraphernalia for possessing a rotted-out APPLE I had smoked a bowl from...), twice I stared them down and rejected plea agreements despite being stuck in jail, and twice the charges were mysteriously dropped without explanation. Of course, I'm anglo-saxon. It doesn't happen like that for everyone here. But then again, not everyone is as persuasive as I am either.
Christian, you have a great case here. The further you can take it, the better (assuming a court will eventually go the right way... not necessarily a fair assumption in the US of A these days, sadly, but still the right one to make...)

The drug dogs don't need to be jailed. lol. The handlers should be vigorously investigated by someone with a disposition like Fred Phelps. Then if it was proven that the handlers signaled the dogs to react then put the handlers in jail for a few years. That should be a crime if it isn't already.
