200 proof ethyl alcohol extraction?

Well I dont know who of you have done the extraction that's on PF's website but I really want to. I tried getting 200 proof etheyl alcohol, I simply can't. Somebody suggested Bacardi 151 or Everclear, but those have 25 percent water in them.

QUESTION-- Can I follow the fungi extraction using 99.9 isopropyl alcohol(very trace amount of water)instead of 200 proof etheyl?

I'm pretty sure it work..better that everclear hopefully.
Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have you even seen a bottle of everclear? 190 proof, 95% alcohol. 100-95=5, not 25.

Everclear will work just fine.

there must be two different proofer everclear, cause the ones around here say 151 proof, 75.5% alcohol. I browsed online and did find some 190 proof everclear.
I gotta find it.

Where is around "HERE", because everclear is illegal in most states. ANd Everclear is always 190 Proof.

I would be leary of isopropyl extractions. Any residual isoprop is toxic and I would think that you wouldn't be able to get it all off unless you apply heat or vacume. Heat can have negative effects on active ingredients.

I have been able to buy everclear over the internet. 151 with a drop or two of lemon juice per cup will work and can still be reduced via evaporation.

But that is just what I read on the internet.

200 proof or 190 is all that should be used if your using ethanol, if you cant get that stuff use HEET Brand Methanol it leave's no residue, but methanol is not consumable, so you have to dissolve it completly which makes dosage a bitch. 200 is not hard to get you just need a liscense, but it's actually cheeper than everclear

This might help you, it helped me in my search about the solvents realm.

I'd say you could substitute the isopropyl alcohol but make sure its totally evaporated.

Wrong. everclear is made in 151 proof for jurisdictions that don't allow anything higher. A lot of states and some countries do not allow anything over 151 and that is probably the case here.

and there is no such thing as 200 proof. That would be 100% pure alcohol; which cannot be made by fractional distillation. There’s a physical limit to how pure alcohol can actually get and it's right around 190 proof.

is the word you want to look up for the property involving water and ethanol being distilled

Pure alcohol strip moisture from the atmosphere and settles around 95% ABV. Dale Pendell wrote that "ether to alcohol, which is alcohol to water." using ether (DEA alarm) or methanol (blindness) not.

190- or 151-proof Everclear is everything you need. Some mushrooms like reishi, you need to do in any case a water extraction. Heat and dry alcohol to reduce mash in water, or steam distill the dry fruiting bodies before using Everclear.

The Crystals of the gods is mentioned in the other thread silly, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of sediment in an extract.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it had to be done. Too many old Usenet posts in circulation (not paint thinner used).

Actually ever clear is made in 2 proofs , 190 and 151. Off brands are less expensive , methanol is the best over all but hard to get unless you race in the indy 500 or have access to it. I have done the extraction, it works, works with spent cakes as well.

Water is the best. Put an eighth into 30mL and freeze it. Or reduce the volume even more.

Chop up fresh or use dried. Soak in boiling water 10m then strain.

Methanol is done for psilocybin to be good, but I would not use wood alcohol to make medicine. It is very toxic and you can not remove all of the solvent.

Everclear is generally safe and effective, but it is not on psychedelic mushrooms. Water is pretty good. Reduce distil it there by half in the water or steam.

Everclear works, water works, so does rum, vodka, or any manner of most solvent really.
