i find infected mushroom is for the peak or for the person that likes upbeat trance. shpongle is a totally different thing combining many different types of music and sounds that flow together perfectly. dont get me wrong though, infected mushroom is still great trip music, but if i would have to pick, i would say shpongle!

i agree. i prefer sphongle because IM has too harsh of a beat at times. not to say i don't love it, 'cause - Sailing in a Sea of Mushroom - Bust a Move - Classical Mushroom - Merlin - Dancing with Kadafi are some of my favorite trip songs. but shpongle is easier on my ears. it doesn't have such a constant and relentless beat.
some of my shpongle fav's are:- Are You Shpongled - Behind Closed Eyelids - Divine Moments of Truth - Dorset Perception - My Head Feels Like a Frisbee - Shiva Space Technology edit: in fact, now that i've thought about it... it is a bit too close to call. they're both quite good at what they do.

I'd have to say Infected mushroom, its more trance inducing, and sometimes the dark tempo trance beats, often deepen the expierence.

well thats probably why you don't like Shpongle much - its made specifically for the psychedelic experience.
And dude I know every Shpongle track - that isn't one

been there, done that - done x-dream, koxbox, hallucinogen, infected mushroom, and many other "trance" albums... in my opinion, Shpongle is by far the best for psychedelics that I've run across so far.

shpongle. infected mushroom wouldn't even get the attention they get without the name. it's cheesey trance.
some oldschool stuff.. slinky wizard (of course), etnica, transwave, green nuns of the revolution, man with no name (still around thank god), shakta (LEPTON HEAD, excellent for their day), total eclipse, doof, hallucinogen (predecessor to shpongle) i was excited when i saw this thread and didn't read any of the other posts so im sure this has been repeated or doesn't even make sense

Ok after all the hype going on around here I thought I'd give both a try. I tried infected mushroom first seeing as though I love techno. Like someone else said they sound like very cheesy techno. Maybe I didn't heard the right tracks but what I did listen to was very weak. If your into Trance try listening to Union Jack - water drums, two full moons and a trout, catus, lolli pop man, red herring etc. Also check out Jones & Stephenson.
Then I moved onto Shpongle. I listen to a few songs off their first album and was a bit disapointed and I decided to be fair and give their second album a shot. I must say the 2nd one was much better imo. Better flow and I like the introduction of world music into thier songs.
So for me Shpongle is far better than Infected Mushroom.

Have you tripped to Shpongle on CD? unfortunately it doesn't seem that sober minds can really grab the whole thing (at least until they've tripped to it once)... after-all, its specifically made for the psychedelic experience.

well if you're into celtic-sounding stuff, just so you know, there's an album that Simon Posford (of Shpongle/Hallucinogen fame) worked on called Celtic cross - its very chilled-out, extremely detailed, and generally kicks ass

Infected Mushroom is one of my favourite trance artists ever.
Shpongle is definitely my fav psy chill-out / ambient artist.
IM on acid in the trance floor of a good party in the middle of the forest . Shpongle on shrooms on the chill-out floor of that same party
dunno which one is better though

Ok, just tripped last night and listened to Shpongle. I must say I am now a believer. I ate some Mazatapecs for the first time and an a incredably pleasent vibe the entire night. Not sure if was the music or the shrooms, but what ever it was it worked.

hehe I love when somebody finally gives in and trips to Shpongle
"Not sure if was the music or the shrooms, but what ever it was it worked."
Its both, my man - I can't say it enough: Shpongle is specifically made to leap out of the CD-player and GRAB you while under the influence of Psychedelics - they take advantage of all the best tricks in the book, and end up writing a whole new book of tricks in the process Glad you enjoyed it - spread the word.

i dont mean to drag up an old thread but i must correct something.
"shiva space technology" is the name of a record company and as someone said above an album by Shida Shadipu. But that actual track you probably got from kazaa (one of my absolute favs BTW) is NOT Shpongle.
It a callaboration of DJ Jorg and Infected mushrooms made as a tribute to shpongle.
just had to clear the air on that one.......i get high of shpongle...literally just listening to it makes me high as hell.

Strumpling made me a believer in Shpongle.
Infected Mushroom is just a little harsh for me. I prefer 'softer' music while I'm tripping.
But I'll definately check out Celtic Cross..thanks!

Shpongle is unique while there are many IM-like bands. I enjoy both, I can't listen to Shpongle on a clear head, IM is great though, under the influence Shpongle is the king. IM is a good band but there are still better within psytrance/ambient scene. Listen to Entheogenic s/t album, that should skyrocket you far far away

Shpongle makes me drool. Infected Mushroom makes me dance.
I like drooling and dancing both.

I have way more respect for IM after seeing them live (and on mush)... they blew my mind! I couldnt stop dancing to the great beats. I swear they put sounds and stuff in their music that is designed to make your trip even trippier. I'd love to see Shpongle live!

i havent herd of anyone not liking shpongle
i have trouble beliveing someone that said they didnt like it. i would think there just saying that to attract attention but if someone truly doesent like shpongle....you need some work
my PARENTS like shpongle...they dont know what to think of it but i caught my dad litening to it when i left the CD in his stereo. He listned ot the whole thing and was like...man that was cool...all kind of weird stuff.
if you just listned to a little bit and dont like it...listen to a whole song....immerse yourself in it..hell listen to the whole album...you will come out a new man.
if there was someone that sayed what are mushrooms like, or what is acid like, or DMT....words couldent do it justice...but shpongle could.
i have let the most closed minded people listen to shpongle...force them to listen to a whole song and they are obsessed...i cant tell you how many shpongle cds ive just givin away in hopes of bringing someone to the light

I love them both, they make stellar music. Some of Infected's music is just real damn good cheesy trance, but some of it is like these beautiful compositions that float from an eerie psychadelic soundscape in another dimension. Alien music, some of us call it. Shpongle wins for sheer originality and genius. The inginuity that shines through in some moments of Shpongle makes me wonder how much time exactly it'll take me to create something of equal signifigance and innovative. Something that could change the course of music, y'know? Change the course of _perception_ even.. "The gnomes have learned a new way to say Hooo-ra-a-aay......"

I think infected mushroom are crap. They recycle drum sequences, ideas and samples from techno that hasnt been progressive since 1995 and add the occasional 'psychedelic' sample in a bid to make it 'psy-trance.' they dont even compare to the thick textured, well sequenced and innovative sounds of Shpongle.

For those of you who enjoy Infected Mushroom over Shpongle due to it being much more "dancefloor-oriented," but dig Shpongle's wackyness, you should definitely check out HALLUCINOGEN, which is Simon Posford (sonic master of Shpongle..) doing stomping dancefloor psytrance

shpongle vs. infected mushroom??????
they are not the same genre first.whick makes imposible to compare them.
anyway,i like infected but not too much honestly.i can't stand more than 3 hours of infected. they were in my homecountry 3 or 4 mounths ago.well, they played pretty nice.that was something.by the way i don't like the last album converting vegetarians. i can recommend 'roll us a giant' for whom want to check them out. i really like that song
and shpongle on the other hand...well first of all it is hard to genre them.they are unique!!! you can't say they are psybient or ambient or chill out or smthing they are totally unique!! raja+simon...best combination i've ever seen..well raja is not very good at mixing in my opinion actually, but he knows how to make tunes, how to play flute..his magical flute you know
so thread is wrong..you can't compare them... you can maybe compare HALLUCINOGEN and infected...which is very easy... simon kicks ass.hes is the genius

I'm sorry man but Underworld is not nearly as detailed (dense?) as Shpongle or Infected, although pretty cool in their own right.

What about taking it back to the roots? I would say Gong (french prog, fusion, psychedelic, etc band from the 70s) definitely rocks over Shpongle. Although I really really really like Shpongle, don't get me wrong. But something about doing that sort of things without computers, without digital equipment.... just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Check out the album "You" from 1974 (i think thats the year)...

I have not heard IM, but I was turned on to Shpongle thru this forum ... and when I first tripped to Shpongle some months ago ...
... WOW ... a beautiful experience ... bliss.
'Divine Moments of Truth' is incredible, one of my fav tracks. Those dijereedoo sounds are crazy.
'And the Day turned to Night' is another favorite.
I'm a musician, I play guitar and am into rock, blues, metal, folk, ethnic music ... but had not been much into 'electronic' music ... but I can definately appreciate Shpongle. Like has been said here already, its definately unique.

NEATO! I just checked out Gong at your recommendation and I must say its pretty cool.....
I don't see how you were comparing it to Shpongle (Cept maybe various aspects of the percussion progression), but its pretty cool man I'm suprised I'd never heard of these guys Where are they from?
It seems like jazz-fusion type stuff

I have to say that overall I like Infected Mushroom more than Shpongle because their songs don't have just one "flavor" Maybe it's just me, but when I listen to any shpongle song it feels the same inside... but the infected mushroom songs have different flavors to them. I am especially in love with their newest album, the "experimental" CD more specifically. My favorite songs are: Symphonatic (by far), Arabian Nights on Mescalin, I wish, The Messenger, and None of this is Real...along with the whole experimental CD from Converting Vegetarian.
I also really like Shpongle though, I get these shpongle cravings once in a while and then i have to listen to "Once upon the sea of blissful awareness and A New Way to Say Hooray"
Conjure One and Delerium are also really good bands but they don't sound as trippy.

What I meant was that for me, the shpongle songs (atleast the ones I've listened to) have the same overall character/feel to them. Again... this is just IMHO

Gong has quite a few songs that are very spacy and atmospheric, which is why I thought of them when listening to Shpongle... As far as I know (and I might be wrong here) they are from France. They never got any "mainstream" (or even underground) status... not sure why, but I guess they have quite a cult following. I don't know anybody who has heard of them, I myself was just introduced to them last week by a friend from Kazhakistan... no idea how he heard about them. Anyway, check out some of there stuff... some is very jazz/fusion like. Others are simply psychedelic "pop" tunes (Pothead Pixies, for example). But some are really spaced out and atmospheric... kinda like Shpongle. Glad to increase your musical enjoyment!

Kickass, Krishna - I'll have to check them out as well! Maybe now they'll get "underground status" via a shroomery revival? ;-)

' 'Divine Moments of Truth' is incredible, one of my fav tracks. Those dijereedoo sounds are crazy.'
Actually the sample used by simon p. on shpongles track DMT (Divine Moments of Truth) is mainly mongolian throat singing and not a didj - but i understand what you mean all the same I dont dislike psytrance at all - so dont get me wrong. But i do prefer the softer mor ambient stuff... Infected mushroom are crap in my opinion not because they are psytrance, but because most of their work sounds like it was sequenced on protracker on an amiga and would take about five minutes to sequence with dubious samples. My albumcomes out in march afterhuge delayes so stay tuned...
