Man pleads guilty to giving mushrooms to friend
The Associated Press
A young man has pleaded guilty to supplying hallucinogenic mushrooms that led to the death of a Paducah teenager as he tried to enter the wrong house.
The Paducah Sun reported 20-year-old Taylor Thompson pleaded guilty Wednesday to trafficking in a controlled substance, marijuana possession and having drug paraphernalia.
Taylor told police he brought mushrooms to a party in July, ate some himself and gave some to other people.
One of those was 18-year-old Caleb Barnett, who later broke into a neighbor's home, thinking it was his own. The homeowner fatally shot him. Barnett died in surgery at Baptist West Hospital on July 30.
Circuit Judge Craig Clymer will sentence Thompson Feb. 3. The prosecutor has recommended 2 1/2 years.

Hopefully he didnt get anything, as he was just defending his home against an invasion. The kid shouldnt have broke into a home that wasnt his. When one is defending their family they dont have time to aske "hey kid, did you take some dope you cant handle?"
I would have shot him too. My sons life is worth more than someone who broke into my house.

Yeah Death is a pretty harsh sentence considering he could have shot him in the leg.I mean there has got to be more to the story than that.Did the kid have a weapon of some kind and making threats to this so called neighbor. And if this is the neighbor you would think he would recognize your fucking neighbor man.I mean WTF man! There has got to be more than that to this story!

No, they dont. Its called a Castle Doctrine. It gives a homeowner the right to shoot an intruder. If you walk outside your door, or soot through a door, you just committed murder, unless you are attacked outside with no way to escape.
Its awful hard to know someones age and who they are when they break in in the dark.
Its sad, really, but the homeowner did nothing wrong. Had he shot him in the leg he could have gotten himself sued in civil court. Not only that, you dont know someones intention, you wouldnt want to shoot a murderer in the leg and give him time to use his own weapon.

Thank you for clearing that up for him. I will say I'ld shoot any fucker that broke into my house. If you are in the situation you are supposed to give a verbal warning that you are armed and will defend your home unless the intruder leaves then it's on. I do feel bad for the kid, but when you take any kind of drug that is your responsability. The kid that had them at the party isn't at fault even though the law may disagree.

Let this be a lesson, you are responsible for any friend you give mushrooms to.Hopefully they don't freak out. I had a friend freak out and he said he was going to call the cops because he couldn't breath. I learned at that point that i would never supply my friends with them again.

This. Guns are unnecessary. Also the guy who gave him the mushrooms probably wouldn't have gotten 2.5 years.

I wont debate guns here, because it isnt the appropriate place. I will say one thing though, our freedom was acquired with guns, its been upheld with guns, and will remain secure because of guns. Anyone that doesnt believe in personal rights to firearms should go ahead and move to canada, do the rest of us a favor.

Wow what terrible situation. I don't believe anyone is at fault, except for the guy who died. He should of made better decisions, like not consuming an illegal substance and breaking into someones home.
I would of shot the guy too. And no not in the leg. In my opinion if I am going to fire a weapon at a living organism, it will always be a kill shot. Luckly I've never had to fire a wepon at a living orginism.

You shoot to kill. Period. Otherwise don't use a gun.
