PF CAKE SUBSTITUTION
    #1160728 - 12/21/02 06:24 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I was wondering if substituting white rice flour for the brown rice flour is a bad thing. I went to the store and thats all they had.. i will try another store but just in case. Also in the same store they didnt have Vermiculite but they did have Periculite. Would that also be a bad thing to change... lemme know asap thanks

Go to a health food store and look for brown rice flour. The only other flour Ive used with success is Rye Flour and Whole Wheat Flour but they where found in the same Health Food Store. If your using the PF Tek or the MMGG the Verm is essential, any thorough research on the PF-Tek would have answered that question. Perlite not Periculite is useful to a cultivator but it is not a valid substitute for verm if you cant find verm I suggest you look harder, wait til plating season, or find a method which does not require verm.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe white rice flour has the adequate amount of nutrients to support mycelial growth. Also, don't worry about going to the store, you can order fine grade Verm and BRF here: http://www.mycosupply.com

Where do you live? I have found Brown Rice Flour in a ton of stores. Bob's Red Mill sells it and they have a web site as well. You can also make you own, with brown rice and a coffee grinder.

You could get regular brown rice and grind it in the blender or a coffee grinder.
