I try to take it off every day or two.
YOu only need to water enough to keep the soil moist (NOT wet)

Would you recommend this for little 3" tall terra cotta pots with a 2-inch diameter at the top? how small is too small?
I'm assuming the bigger terra cotta pots would be fine (4" tall, 3 1/2-inch diameter at the top)

I don't like using terracotta pots for seedlings because they tend to dry out WAY too quickly.

Do you bottom water Dan?
I've found that by bottom watering you tend to get that good consistency of a wrung out sponge, like you were talking about above...
So you tend to put the seeds in the cup on top of the soil first, and then water?

Never did much bottom watering with seedlings, but with mature specimens there is no other way aside from rain ofc.

Just got some seed packets in the mail today (Tricocereus macrogonus/peruvianus/bridgesii/pachanoi) and am gonna germinate over the coming winter months. I'm in the PNW and have a heating mat but sunlight will be limited over the winter. Will a CFL light set up provide enough light for these babies?

do you cover the seeds at all, or just let them sit on top of the soil?

Is this going to work for me? I live in a smaller town, so I don't have a lot of places to shop for this kind of stuff.

Should do ok.
There's also a method that only uses coarse sand.

Dan, I started ~200 different Trich seeds a week and a half ago and used 50/50 coarse sand and coir. Working great so far. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Lol @ this. A cactus mix for leafy plants. Only a few cacti I know of that even have leaves.

I think that whole info section was copy and pasted and not edited for this specific product.
Leave it to HD to get lazy on their web page (which I hate)
