CEREAL CAKES * 1
    #1159597 - 12/21/02 05:15 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Yeah, so I was realy bored one day and decided to make up a few jars, but I didn't have any spores left, or BRF, and it's my first time doing PFtek...I decided that if I was to innoiculate them, I was using some broken up chunks that are in my fruiting chamber now, that had nice mycelium on them....After deciding this, I went looking through my cupboards, looking for a growing medium...
I've seend people use, poo, straw, TOILET PAPER! and even popcorn, so I thought just about anything would do...
I came accross this:

A 1.35 Kg box of "The original RED RIVER hot cereal"...It's a red box with a blue ribbon and some oats on it....It states that it's "High in Fiber" and contains only natural organic product...Ingrediants are : Cracked Wheat, cracked Rye, Flax (cracked and whole)...
So, I soaked this stuff for 10 minuts in warm water, then mixed 50/50 with fine vermiculit, did the jars PF tek, and let cool...The only difference was, I had to cut up my peices of mecelial medium, and I unscrewed each jar in front of a heppa filter, and dropped in approx. 1/4 teaspoon of chopped up LIVE mycelium, screwed the lids on, replaced tin foil, and placed in a Thermal lunch bag (wich I think holds 4 1 pint jars nicely)...
3 days later, I look at my jars, and theyre ALL
1/4 colonized already...I am absolutely shocked....Amazed, and I thought I would share this with you all, enjoy....

And if anyone else wants to try this cereal I HIGHLY recomend it....

Yeah, well okay...It's Just called " The original Red RiverHOT CEREAL"
It' said to have originated from Manitoba's(canada) Red River Valley. It's a mixture of three whole grains- wheat, rye and flax.Nothing more, nothing less....
It's said that the flax gives it the extra benefit of soluble AND insoluble fiber.(I don't know if this has positive mushroom application)...

The texture of this cereal is great too...a bit bigger than fine vermiculite....
all I did was soak it for 10 min, then added verm 50/50 and jarred/sterilized it....

As far as pics go, I do have a web cam, but not at the same place that I operate, so I'd have to bring the "lab" over here!
But, Yes, I will try for pics.

THE CEREAL IS MADE BY ROBIN HOOD MULTIFOODS INC.

I did sterilize the syuuf before adding the live culture, that may or may not have subjected my new cereal jars to contam, but I did it with a mask on, in front of a heppa, so I doubt it...Plus it's colonizing like crazy...I just checked again, and still more advance...I LOVE THIS STUFF!

THATS the same label, but instead of bread, there's a bowl of oatmeal...You're on the right track though...
