For a plain verm casing, does the verm HAVE to be sterilized, since my previous attempt w/ P. cubensis resulted in a cobweb casing?

I am not sure if I am getting what your asking but I think my answer is no......not technically, you could pasturize it......

But, has anyone created a straight verm casing without applying any heat to the verm and not gotten any contams?

i didnt sterilize the verm and i have no contams:-)
but the best would be to sterilize it first. why risk it?

Never having tried such a thing I cannot say from experience, though I don't see technically why it would not work as most of your contams need something to eat and verm has no nutrative value thus no food.......

I've never sterilized my verm casing... just weted it with water out of the tap.

Why not? Previously, I used plain verm which had already been dampened w/ water and it grew cobweb, even though I used the most sterile of procedures.
