water amount for your 1/2 pint cakes
    #1158678 - 12/20/02 06:50 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I always made my 1/2 pint brf cakes with 45 cc's of water. Which works fine. However I decided to experiment a little with 40 cc's, 45 cc's, and 50 cc's. To my amazement the 50 cc's jars colonized much quicker. The 40 cc ones get to about 95% and then they take for ever to complete. I urge anyone who hasn't tried adding a little more water in thier jars the next time you make cakes to do so. Maybe just a couple jars to see if there is a difference.

Yes, I have found that extra water does make a difference. I mix one batch for 12-13 jars at a time using 8 cups verm, 3 cups brf, and about 4 cups water, enought to get the verm good and moist. I add the water first, then mix in the flour. easy as pie.

I also find that extra water helps them colonize faster. However, I tend to get more contamination when using more water. Just my observation.

Not correct.

The pf tek calls for "45-60 ml " which of course can be a hit or miss game.

Much luck is involved this way for a first timer.

But if you do it like www.fungifun.org suggests, and you will always get the right water content.
