ahh, thats what I ment. so FREQUENT air exchange is not needed but some gas exchange is? thanks for the heads-up shea so when I make up my monotub would it be better to elevate it/keep it off the ground if possible?

I personally would not have it on the ground that just me thoe. im not saying it will contam if you do, but might as well lessen the chances. I like to keep all my stuff elevated off the ground.

Very nice results with those cakes. How long does it usually take you from putting them in the FC till first harvest?

7-10 days, thats from right after the dry roll to first harvest. 3-5 days to pin 4-5 days to mature

Damn, that's fast. Is that the usual time for most people or do you have the best set up possible?

I use a modified PMP for a fruiting chamber. Does cubes and cyans great. Keeps constant FAE and high RH. When I have time I still manually fan and mist. I also use a 4 foot double bulb florescent fixture with 2 6500K bulbs in it, using a 12/12 lighting schedule.
Example

The chamber does not look like that now I changed it a round a bit no more rock in the bottom just more perlite and water

take that info and apply it to mono tubs as well if you grow them ...
FAE should be avoided and GE just functionable while in colonization period to help avoid contaminations ... tape tyvek over your holes until fruiting ... i know its a pf tek thread but it will come to bear sooner or later ! FAE means shit until its time to fruit !

You could do that or put the mono in a bag and close it up while its colonizing

is PMP or shotgun FC the way to go? I grew some cakes like 2 years ago in a Poor mans pod and they did great, I didnt know as much as I do now and had too much water in the perlite but the bubblewands worked great I wasnt on the shroomery for a while after that, and it seems like they have all these new things goin on... is a shotgun FC "better" than a PMP? or just easier/cheaper (lack of air pump) I had alot of air flowing into the pmp, they were good pumps for a large tank and kept the rh at 100%

Personally I like PMP's better when there built right. They can handle many different types of mushrooms giving them lots of Fresh air. Species like cyans and oyster need lots of fresh air. I have also used a Shotgun but I must say my PMP beats it hands down. Economically speaking Shotguns are better but if you have the money might as well build a PMP that if you want to get into other species. The main reason I built it was for cyans. But now since I am not doing any active grows for awhile it will suit my needs for oysters and other edibles

I have told so many people when there asking why are my jars going so slow and it because people cover the holes. Theres just no need to, or whats the point of the dry verm? might as well build self healing lids with a tyvek GE port
ive actually had problems not covering the holes back this summer.. fungus gnats breached the dry erm layer and maggots were born not a pretty sight or smell

Yea in cases like that where you know it can be a problem use the micropore tape. But for the masses that does not happen.

No Calcium carbonate(CaCO3) Is used to buffer casing to a base/alkaline to prevent molding. That would be a bad thing to add since mushrooms prefer a acidic sub. Calcium carbonate would slow things down
