Great pics. I am always picking off that type of moss from my cyans. The patches of woodchips they fruit heavily from are always grass covered or bordering grass and usually have that moss present... Interesting.

Probably not, more liekly the moss is an indicator species ie. It indicates there is a good deal of moisture present as well as possibly that the cyans like a little acidity as does the moss. The only Liberty Caps I have found here in Estonia have also been found very close to that moss and another type of sedge-type grass other than the sedge grass it was growing in, they possibly grow in fields without these factors but the mere presence of these other organisms suggests they enjoy the same environment, probably most importantly moisture.
Very very nice find, wish we had more hardwood chip beds in this country - they are virtually non-existant here. I did find one local mushroom book though that said they can possibly be found here - here is to hoping.
-------------------- "...I found dozens of single specimens. That's what I call hunting. There are only a few "good" hunters here, even now. You're certainly in that group. I would imagine if we hunted together we'd find our styles are similar." - Mr. Mushrooms RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together. St Thomas

Yeah my locations i pick liberty caps from have alot of moss. so much that the fuckers have come in with a landscaping tool to rip the moss out. it has left big slits in the floor. not many mushrooms growing there now no liberty caps atall. maybe they ripped out the mycellium too.
Checked a few woodchip flower beds today. coverd in grass and moss etc. NO cyans found. WIll continue the hunt soon and check out the forests.

been searching libs [Re: buztest]

so yeah, ive been searching for liberty caps for the first time for about a month now, and i thought this was the only shroom active that grew in the uk!
now i think im getting the gist that cyans grow here aswell? are thesee weaker than libs@? im guessing so!
but looking at the photos, ive seen literally 100s of these shrooms, maybe they were lookalikes, but im sure ive seeen them. how many does it take to trip off them?
from what i can gather they grow in woodland/barky/chippy areas??
finally might find some shrooms, have given up on lib caps for a week or so/
are the conditions for cyans different?
THANKS!!!

I don't know how they compare to liberty caps but Psilocybe cyanescens are a potent species of Psilocybe so I'm sure they are as good or better than libs.
