OFFICIAL U.K CYAN DISTRIBUTION THREAD * 2
    #11584673 - 12/04/09 05:46 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

could every uk hunter out there please add any information regarding cyanescens, from encounters of them to guerilla ops, available spores to purchase etc. im very new to this subject and would  like to learn more

basically aything and everything to do about cyanescens in the uk, i have read they look slightly different in europe, show more of a veil reminence

hopefully gathering some info and then acting upon it may help the spread of spores

all keen cyan hunters please keep this thread open as it might hopefully come up trumps

I'd very much like to see this species become naturalised here in the UK.

I think it's very important for anybody considering hunting cyans to become very aware of any deadly, potential lookalikes ie galerina autumnalis/marginata.

Nope, but I'm from South East England. When exactly did you find them?

Hi Libs
Like the idea behind the thread. I too am very interested in cyans and encouraging the expansion of numbers here in uk. I think it's only a matter of time before cultivation technique becomes efficient and common knowledge. They are such a beautiful mushroom and as much as I am a big fan of Libs I'd like to give the fields a bit of a recovery period and concentrate on cyans.
Obviously the seasons finishing now so all we can do is build up as much info as possible and get  prepared to hit them hard next year.
I think it's important for hunters to understand proper harvesting technique ie cutting with scissors at the stem base as opposed to just tearing them from the ground which is quite tempting when your at the side of somebodys garden in a busy street!
Tommorow I'll post some photos of some I found this season as well as specific habitat info and anything else I think's relevant.

nice input man cheers, very optimistic

All of these were found this season in South East England, they were from a patch about 1.5M x 1.5M with a yield of about 100 fruits, were growing on wood chip mulch alongside a yet to be identified shrub/hedge at the top of a garden joining a footpath on an urban street. These specimens had been cleaned prior to being photographed but initialy some had a heavy deposit of spores on the top of the cap which is still slightly present in some of the photos.
The last photo is obviously a spore print.
To give you an idea of scale, the plate they are on has about a 13''diameter. If you look closely you can see some blueing. Pretty much all of the specimens blued but to varying degrees, some only lightly whist others had extreme blueing.
I think it's very important for anybody considering hunting cyans to become very aware of any deadly, potential lookalikes ie galerina autumnalis/marginata.
Anybody else found any this season?

congrats man great find, did you find that alot of them had a reminence of the veil?

Nice thread libs.... yet another one i will be following. I checked a few places this year where there are woodchips but had no luck. Im on the edge of London so i figured its an ideal place as these things tend to grow in quite urban areas where there is a lot of landscaped stuff. Best places to check are industrial areas.... other public areas and places like car parks that use woodchips.

i very much doubt id find them in my town as theres very limited landscaped area with woodchips.and apparently theyre more rare the further north you go

i hope to get some spores and create a guerilla op but ill have to get researching :tongue2:

and the more of us who do these kinds of things, the more spores will be spread and hopefully, one day theyre relatively common

does anybody know how cyan spores came to the uk? as far as im aware they were imported on pnw woodchips?

anybody know?
