just found the most mamoth mushroom ever, looks a lot like an oyster, was growing out of leaf mulch rather than tree though, so not too sure... sorry about the dodgy pictures, will try to upload some more if needed

Habitat: found this mushroom growing out of some leaf mulch on a woodland floor. wasnt on a log or any wood or anything, straight out of leaf mulch...
Gills: really long, deep gills running all the way to the stem.
Stem: thick, about 2 and a half inches tall...
Cap: the span of my hand. brownish grayish...
Spore print color: not printed yet... white by the look of the mulch near it
Other information: smells just like oysters i've grown...

I doubt it's an oyster mushroom.
Looks more like a Clitocybe sp. or Lepista sp. to me. That would explain the sizes as well.

Could this be a big Armillaria sp.? Armillaria Tabescens?

Nah, that's definitely not an Armillaria...
The cap texture is different. Armillaria Tebescens are brownish, this one here is gray. This gills are wight, while he Armillaria gills also have a brown touch.

I told you before to use the toilet! Not your monitor!
But seriously, the center looks brown, though everything else looks gray, as I think. The possibility for me to wrong is just as big the it is for you. Let's wait for others to comment.

Something clitocyboid, apparently. Possibly, it could be placed in the genus Lepista, but I understand that that's more a matter of taste than one of correctness.

i was once told on a mushroom forray that some clitocybes (funnel caps?) are edible and nice and some have muscarine in them and will make you die. or be sick or whatever. and the guy said the way to test is to take a little nibble and if it doesnt taste peppery you're safe. ive done that and i dont think it tastes peppery... hard to say though...

According to wikipedia, Clitocybe rivulosa is both tasteless and deadly.
