Fruiting at 60 degrees F
    #1157433 - 12/20/02 09:08 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I just birthed some pf cakes. Terrerium temp is a steady 60 degrees F.
I know this is a little low but has anyone successfully fruited cakes at this temp? I really dont want to go through the hassle of setting up a heater.

I suppose it will fruit. You may be at a greater risk of contaming that way though. When it does fruit, it'll be VERY slowly. Lowest temp i fruited at was at about 67F. Took a really long time. I'd suggest gettin that heater setup, even tho you really dont want to. Good luck either way.

U must not have any kind of humidity in there cause if you did it would bump up the temp some
Get a heating pad or fish tank heater in there and let them do their thing man

Too cold. You need some heat or else, they have no chance.

Humidity is at 98 % using wet perlite. What does the humidity have to do with the heat anyway?I do have a heating pad but I'm not using it because I've read that using one will draw moisture out of the cakes. I guess i'll have to splurge buy a couple fish tank heaters. Thanks for the all the advice .

60 is a bit on the low side, but you will still get fruit at that temp. I would at least recommend a heating pad set on low below the terrarium, but it isn't absolutely necessary.
I know that you can get fruit from cased rye and bulk substrates at those temperatures, so I will assume you will be able to do so with cakes also.
good luck

I find when I put a heating pad under my terrarium the perlite puts out a lot more humidity.

Has anyone tried heat pads to incubate-you think it would work on low or would it be too hot?
