Wet spots/sour rot "bacillus sp."
    #1157420 - 12/20/02 08:59 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Alright guys,I just checked out the contaim foruma nd wen to the contaim faq and...
The first contaim there was wet spots/sour rot bacillus sp.
Now is this bad,I am assuming it probably is!
This could very well be what is growing in both my myco-bags!
I said it looked sort of like sperm,it is like liquidy, milky sperm and it is growing!
It looks almost just like those pics on the contaimanation FAQ!
Also I said it smelled different then before,it started out smelling like grains when I got the bags, but it smells different now, more pungent and not like grain or mushrooms at all!
What should I do?
Should I wait a couple days to see what hapends?
Also when I smelled the bags my eyes became itchy for a minute or to after and I felt wierd for a minute,I don't know why but I thought it would be safe to smell through the fillter patch on the bags!
Thanks for any info guys!

Also guys,on the contaim FAQ it said this sour rot, bacillus sp grows on grains. And I am pretty sure the myco bag is for grain loving mushrooms right,so I have a feeling that from the pics on the contaim forum, that i have this bacillus shit growing and not mycelium!
Help,what do I do!
I could take some pics once it get more spread out so you guys and tell me what it look like to you,but it does very much look like the bacillus sp/sour rot in the contaim FAQ!
Thanks!

I my experience, which honestly isn't that much... Once you get that crap, you can't get rid of it, except by getting rid of the whole lot. :frown: Sorry about your loss if that's the case. My friend just lost like 5 quart jars to the damn stuff.

Real shitty if that's your only stuff too. :frown:

If you got contamination its your fault for not making everything sterile.

Oh everything was sterile alright!
I washed my hands every time before even handling the myco-bags,wiped them with rubbing alchohal soaked paper towel,at the injection point and the needle.
I kept them at 80-85 degress and in a box,so they would be in complete darkeness.
What did I do wrong?

Did you get a butane or alcohol lighter and heat the tip of the needle until it was glowing bright red?

wet spot bacteria has nothing to do with being sterile.. you can be as sterile as humanly possible and still get it.. it is bacteria.. not a contam like trich. wet comes from the substrate being to wet.. I get it once in a while with birdseed.. I used to get it all the time but then changed my ratio and don't get it as much. Myco bags are another story.. I don't use those so I have no idea how to prevent it with them or if it's even wet spot you have? It may not be..

Did you not learn anything from Francesco Redi's experiment? Back in the 17th century he had an experiment that disproved spontaneous generation or abiogenesis.
