I plan on adopting a dog or puppy in the next few months... need suggestions, please.
    #11572183 - 12/02/09 09:34 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I still want to adopt a puupy or dog sometime soon and was wondering what would make for a good small to medium sized dog?  I really have a fondness for the Whippet and the Boston Terrier, but I am open to any suggestions.

Don't do it, is my advice.
If ever you want to move/rent a place, they're a problem.  You want to hitch hike...well, dogs are a crutch.  Some apartments don't allow dogs + having a dog will make your rent and deposit higher.

I'd just avoid it if you've got any choice.

Don't get me wrong, I love my dog, but she was going to be put down (instead of put up for adoption) if the woman I knew didn't find anyone to take her.  Being a young dog, I said "OK", but she's been a crutch for me in many ways.

Dogs get out, cause a car accident, you're liable.

Get a mutt.  Fewer genetic disorders and all around more lovable and cuddly.

well, all my dogs are mutts. i much prefer mutts to purebreds; they seem to have better dispositions, ime, and as mentioned, fewer genetic problems.

pit bull/lab mixes are nice.

i told the people in my apartment complex that my dog was a service dog and i was a little hard of hearing (which would explain any barking he might do also). bought him a reflective orange vest. no one has ever questioned me.

I love my rottie.  He's low energy so he doesn't get bored if I don't play with him 4 hours a day, but he will play if you're up for it.  They have so much love to give, and love to cuddle.  The only problem is that they get hip problems when they get older because of their size.

It depends on how much time you want to spend with your dog.  Personally, I love beagles, but they're so high energy.  I don't have time with school and work.  Collies also usually have really great temperaments, but they're also quite high energy.

It really depends on you.

My buddy has a Pit bull/Weimaraner mix that is fuckin unbelieveable!  He's all silver with a small white streak down his chest.  He's shorter and built like a pit, but he has the overall shape of a Weimaraner.  He is so awesome, amazing, and loveable!
