Stuff floating in my sterlized syringe water.
    #1157074 - 12/20/02 04:22 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

After boiling water for syringe making, i always notice this shit in it. It almost looks like a powder or something. Hard to describe. I have well water, so that may help. I imagine if you've seen this before, you will know what im talking about. Is it minerals? Some sort of organic material? Just wondering. I mean i know it wouldnt hurt the whole process, cuz no matter what it is, its sterile. Any info would be right on.

My tap water is pretty heavily oxegenated for some reason, and this causes tiny little bubbles to appear in the water that could make it look cloudyish. This usually only happens when the water is disturbed somehow (ie, coming out of a tap), and could plausably occur when the water is boiled and then put in a syringe. The bubbles usually go out of the water after it has been still for a minute or so. Is this what you have? Maybe you just have really hard water and you can see the junk in it.

Yes, mainly calcium carbonate.

Try buying one of those Brita water filters (or equiv.)

I have the same happen here, but I never experienced it to be a problem for the quality of the syringes.

I have a related question, except the stuff floating in my syringe is clumps of spores. Even after shaking very well there remain several large clumps. When I inocculate will these clumps clog the syringe or cause inefficient inocculation?
