Caapi seedling
    #11570824 - 12/02/09 03:57 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

This is what I've been working on lately.  I just planted a buttload more today.  The plant I'd had for years did not survive a move earlier this year :wander:, so I am making up for it now.

(Btw, I've got these offered in the marketplace.  Plenty of extras available.)

There are several other species of banisteriopsis.  I'd like to get my hands on some because we really hear very little about them.

Looking awesome blazed!

How long was germination, what methods did you use, etc.

I'm sure we'd all love to hear :yesnod:

Germination was about 2 -2.5 weeks. I plant with the wing up burying the opposite end about 1/8" or so.  The soil was loose, fertile potting soil as you can probably see from the picture. I covered the planted seedlings with clear plastic wrap and kept them in my grow room, which is probably about 80 degrees and humid from all the plants.  I had some other caapi seeds in a flat takeout container too. I put the cover on loosely over the top of that one. Good airflow is important because the seeds can mold easily.  I make sure to remove the plastic from time to time.  I barely watered them during the process.  I have also germinated these in front of a window in past years.  From past experience, it seems that you want to avoid letting the soil dry out like you would with some types of seed.  I try to just maintain the original moisture that is in the soil when I start.

Added to the Useful Links thread.

I'll try to re-arrange it and separate that bottom part more when I get time, but for now I just wanted to let you know it's in there

I suppose that it is worth mentioning too that you have to get your seeds in the fall or early winter months.  Summer is not the time to grow from seed because they will not grow.
