Oysters are extremely CO2 intolerant, and usually don't do well in a shotgun terrarium unless you also fan a few times daily.
Oysters also prefer cooler than room temperature. If grown in room temp, they're not going to be meaty and firm. If you're in an apartment, set up your fruiting chamber so it's against an open window. They'll do best with a temperature down to about 45F at night and up to about 60F during the day. Find a way to do that and you'll have nice fruits. RR

Wow. That looks awesome.
What if you used a humidifier or a humidifier and an ultrasonic in the utility room?
Just guessing here, I've never grown oysters before. It looks like you could be sitting on a great flush!

Hrmph. Maybe an open tray of perlite would help me keep the humidity up? But I don't know how well that's going to work in cool temps.
I may end just having to wait until spring and do them outside... which is ok, I guess.

Here's how I'm trying it, it seemed plausible.

Yeah it is. I don't know what's normal for oysters, but this stuff kicks ass. Smells pretty strong too. Do they taste like they smell?

Update 12/20: What do you all think? It's a shallow open tub in a drafty room, I can't get much more FAE than that. Temps have been in the 60s-low 70s, mostly. With brief excursions to 40's and 80's.

Yes and no. It's the same tradeoff as with cubes- RH vs FAE. But oysters are more tolerant of dry conditions, and much less tolerant of CO2 buildup. (Is my understanding) This tub tried to make that compromise. There's a shallow layer of perlite, and I mist once or twice a day. But because it's cooler, it doesn't evaporate too badly. I can't grow them outdoors at this time of year, so I'm trying this for indoor culture. Seems to, but do they look ok so far?

just comparativly to what i've seen they look perfect and a pretty good yeild for your overall sub size
the blue oysters yeild fewer overall than the pink and the white ones though, it seems.

You think they will start to fan out? Or just grow up like that? I'm not sure these are the classic blues- the syringe said Pl. columbinus. I'm not sure if that's the same as Pl. ostreatus or not. So I'm basically letting them teach me how they like to be grown.

rock on Doc! lookin' good.
only opinion i have is that you may wanna raise the basket up out of the tub. it seem to me that sitting down below the rim of the tub w/ perlite could hold a trough of CO2 even if for short periods when the air is still. i've grown pearl oysters from a plastic bag kit poked with holes. all i did for it was suspend a bigger bag with bigger holes ( 1/4" or more ) over it. just removed the bag, misted and fanned 2-3 times a day. this wasn't my idea btw, like i said it was a kit ( from FP ) but it worked like a charm.

I doubt CO2 can settle in an open tub in room air. Air is a lot slipperier than that. But I did think about an ultrasonic with a little bit of tubing, wafting humidity and FAE down in there on a timer.
