My oyster basket colonized! (updated 12/20)

(Current pics here.)
I guess I should have expected it, but in my mind I wasn't really prepared.

Oyster culture from SporeWorks. LC to rye, spawned to boiled cardboard and used coffee grounds. Basket came from Family Dollar, they have a variety of them in different sizes and shapes.
So what would you do? Too cold for outdoors. My utility room is dry- I think this is too small to just leave it out in room air. But maybe? Giant shotgun? Topless monotub? Whaddaya think?

The black tub in the pic is a 6qt shoebox, it's about that size.

No straw. Boiled cardboard and used coffee grounds. I threw a bit of gypsum in with the cardboard water.

Very nice looking Doc!
Now I have a question for you, I have 5 qts. of oyster myc on WBS. They look great. Where do you think I should go from here? I got these spores on trade, and decided why the hell not, gotten this far, but not sure what to do now that there fully colonized.

Beats me, I'm new to it all too. Noobieshroomie seems to know a lot, listen to him. And UTSE, of course, that's where I got the cardboard idea.
If you want to try that, I just tore it into strips and tossed it in the boiling water, let it cook like half an hour, then cooled. Then layered cardboard, coffee grounds, and spawn until the basket was full. Put it in a bag for ten days just like a bulk cubensis tub, and then it comes out like the picture.

Do this. It seems the easiest way to get a great flush? Practically what doc just did except RogerRabbit is using straw in the video.

Yup. I thought about going to Michael's to get a mini-bale so I could try straw too.

haha i think a regular sized bale is 5 bucks at home depot. perlite is 4 bucks for 8 quarts there too (8 bucks a tub, makes it really not worth shopping around w/ gas)

The only way I could have a regular size hay bale in my apartment would be to use it as furniture.
But boxes from food, no problem. Eat food, fold up box, store for use. You want clean dry cardboard without grease, not pizza delivery boxes.

Plan B: Bottom shelf of cubensis greenhouse. Should be cooler enough, plus the way I have my FAE set up it might get enough on the bottom shelf. Plus, no drilling or buying. I'll update on this either way, if it works or doesn't.

You can tell that some people have more space than others by the way they talk about things. The common advice to get the big bags of perlite and verm, for example. Great value, but those bags are huge!

I use the dollar store baskets too. I've made 3 of them to test, they are fruiting right now outdoors. I want to give them for a few people for Christmas. They can just put it on the porch or kitchen table, water it daily, and harvest some delicious oysters.

And Doc, go with plan B.

How are you watering the baskets? Garden sprinkler can?

Actually dunk them (same with my straw logs) once a day in a bucket for a few seconds. Then mist them heavily a couple of times. I don't know if it's ideal with the baskets, but works very well with the logs.

I used to do lawn sprinkler installation, and one of our sidelines was setting up watering systems for houseplants on decks. What I'm getting at is you could either have it on a timer, or go out and flip a switch, and watch that rack water itself.
