Innards and bacteria, abscesses and furuncles
    #1156010 - 12/19/02 07:50 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

To premise, I couldn't find any previous posts about this. My incubating jars have some exploded and split grain, and there is some of the white inner stuff floating about. On the glass it looks like the lighter bacteria in the contam. FAQ, but there is a confusing lack of odor (aside from that of cooked grain). Is there an odorless bacterium  :smirk:? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

bacteria could possibly be relatively odorless, but I have not encountered any before.  The exploded grain kernels or residual "juice" do sometimes look contaminated without actually being so.
Wait and see if any other colors develop or a smell does.  Or just get a high powered microscope take a sample and see if it contains any bacteria.
That last one might be a bit more involved.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's a kind of reverse wolf in sheep's clothing. I'll wait and see if there are any color/odor developments. I'm pretty sure I could borrow a microscope...it might be interesting either way to look at the myc. Thanks for the reply.
