Yeah it is good in fact a lot of stuff that came from the Planet Dog record label in 1994-1995 is great.

Children of the Bong
Banco de Gaia (the new stuff is not that good in my opinion)
Eat Static

I am a big fan of Psytrance but I found this stuff before Goa and it was the trippiest electronica I could find in 1994. I like to listen to this, Shpongle, Celtic Cross and what have you because Psytrance gets boring after a while unless you are dancing.

Oh those artists are like Eat Static? Eat Static = same dudes from Ozric Tentacles, another one of my favorite groups - check out Ozric Tentacles - The Hidden Step  Its fantastic... not quite Shpongle-Worthy, but cool.

Eat Static - In the Nude is pretty good as well

I've heard a lot recently about stereolab I'll have to try downloading some of their stuff to see if I like it.

Ozric Tentacles has never really been my cup of tea I. I have only one album Jurassic Shift and it always seemed kinda new ageish maybe like Yani or John Tesh.

Eat Static is different than Children of the Bong and Banco de Gaia it is all over the place where CofB and BdG are more of a journey like shpongle. Anyway download a song or two and you will see. Check out anything from BdG's two best albums Maya and Last Train to Lhasa.

OZRICS COMPARED TO YANI!!! Pla........ease, I didn't just read that did I!? Even simon posford (the lone deranger!) has to take his hat off to these guys (he actually bigs em up in Are you shpongled? if I remember rightly)

check out some of these ozric albums:

Pongmasters ball (live)
Waterfall cities
strangeitude
become the other
erpland
pungent effulgunt
Jurassic shift

Ed wynne's guitar is furious and blissful. Joie's (or seaweed's, damn it even ed's) synth work = breathtaking
Merv's (or rad...or shoo's druming skills are tighter than a...!)
Champignon's bag'o'flutes would be sorely missed...Ta khut, baby!
Roly's (and don't forget zia  ) bass lines always fluid

Oh and Nodens ictus an ozrics offshoot band, beautiful atmospheres, ambient textures and soundscapes...put that korg wavestation to work.

Let me start by saying that I do not think Simon Posford is the end all be all of electronic music. Shpongle is good and Hallucinogen is great, but it is the same for every board like this one I visit, Shpongle this and Shpongle that.

The one album I have of Ozric is Jurassic Shift and it is just not dark enough for my taste, too floaty with no catchy tunes. Maybe under the inluence but I like anything in that state so that is no judge.

Maybe people just all like to agree and say yeah Shpongle and yeah Ozric. The friends of mine that like Ozric also like Phish and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. They sit around getting high agreeing on the same music over and over again, so boring. You want something good try Eric Weissberg's Shuckin' the Corn. All of my good openminded Phish friends look at me like I am crazy when I throw on some good ole' Bluegrass records.

Enjoy the music you like and have fun

Oh, I think Sparkle from Phish is brilliant and is great in a Bluegrass mix.

Who said Simon was the end-all-be-all...... this is a thread about music similar to Shpongle dude. Settle down?

I read in an interview that Simon really digs the Ozrics and the more I listen to them the more I can see which tricks of theirs he ran off with

Somebody had mentioned Nodens Ictus - that album kicks some major ass as well - it sounds pretty old, but the composition is fantastic - not very Shpongle-like though, but I would assume if you like the details of Shpongle you'll like how intricate this album is too.

No I was just replying to the above comment that maybe I should like Ozric because Simon likes Ozric, sorry for the outburst.

Ephemeral by Synaesthesia is a dark organic journey worthy of a room full of candles listen. The album Ephemeral is very hard to find and the only place I have been able to download it is on SoulSeek. If you want it my user name is phreakyzen and I will put anybody from here on my list.

well isn't that a reasonable suggestion then? If you dig Shpongle.... then you may dig the Ozrics as well, as they've been a great influence for Simon

In reply to:

Not when I already said they sound like Yani. The post was:

In reply to:

Pla........ease, I didn't just read that did I!?

Did not sound like a suggestion of anything. Sounded like a question of my sanity, like maybe I should rethink what I just said because Simon is down with them.

Here are some artists/bands that are good while tripping, or ones that would probably be good while tripping.

Boards of Canada (some of the best electronic trip music)
Mouse On Mars

Autechre
Squarepusher
Bj?rk
Boredoms (probably best for daytripping in the summer)
Philip Glass
u-ziq (he actually has a track called Mushroom Compost, which is a really cool song)
Sigur Ros
Matmos
Funkst?rung
Richard Devine
Amon Tobin
Third Eye Foundation
Tricky
Massive Attack
Plaid
A Clockwork Orange soundtrack
The Residents might be good too, and possibly Renaldo and the Loaf

Tool, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd are all good choices too.

I've only heard 30 second clips of Shpongle, and the songs I heard sounded very cool. They sound kind of like Juno Reactor combined with Boards of Canada, but Shpongle still has a very unique sound.

No need to come in here and talk smack if you don't like Shpongle - they're looking for similar music.... The Beatles are not similar..

THE FIREMAN - RUSHES, however, an album by Paul McCartney in 1998, is somewhat like Shpongle, only way more accessible and quite a bit less detailed.

Ah thanks for the tip never heard of the Firemen. Sounds like good ambient I will have to check out the whole album. I would love to hear what John might have done with electronica!

Wow! This is a collaboration with Youth from Dragonfly. Will be checking this out soon.
