rotten shrooms?
    #1155498 - 12/19/02 04:23 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

well i'm not sure if these shrooms are rotten or not now... heres the scenario. i had to leave for a few days (left monday night came back this morning) and i picked everything that was ready b4 i left and had it drying, but there were 2 little clusters of shrooms that hadn't torn the veil yet so i was waitin for them to get a little bigger.... any way when i come home today they got so big that they couldn't hold up their weight and detached and fell over onto the perlite... right under the caps is black (not sure if it is spores or rotting, seemed to rub off though so i'm hoping it is spores), and the cap on one of them seemed to be more wet than it should be but not overly mushy.... what would you guys recomend (i know it's hard w/o a pic) should i even try to eat them or is it not worth the risk of gettin sick?

If it washes off, its spores.  You're fine, eat up.

It would probably take longer than two days for the mushrooms to begin rotting, especially if they've recently reached maturity. The black stuff you mention is most likely the heavy accumulation of spores.
