Re: Stopping nicotine and alcohol use [Re: deCypher]

I think just a moment of reflection on some of the body's feedback can give us a clue as to the extent of toxicity. The problem is when the initial experience, as with alcohol, is wrapped up in euphoric pleasure, we tend to repeat the process and disregard the consequences.

Quote:

i quit drinking because i hate the person i am when i am drunk.  he is really stupid and arrogant.

It's a bit different for me. I've been told several times that I am more sociable/funny/witty whenever I am intoxicated. It is a rather stark contrast compared to my typically introverted form of sobriety.

Quote:

feels good man.

And when much of the grey day-to-days are sprinkled with monotony, it is so tempting to pour some down the hatch. It's a quick, cheap, efficient standby that never fails.

This is among the many reasons I am trying to quit. It's just too easy. It's easier said than done, but I don't want life to be a breeze.

I am not aiming for asceticism, or to become a square. I am just becoming cognizant that lately instead of pouring fuel, I am pouring water on the fire.

Short term gratification vs long term happiness.  If only our prefrontal cortices matured earlier in life so we would know better than to make stupid decisions.  :tongue2:
