Monotubs Post Cased, too early? Pictures
    #11541228 - 11/28/09 05:25 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hi shroomery, i have a new monotub which i have just cased with peat moss. I have a bad feeling that i might have done it too early, here is one of the picture i took 9 days after spawning WBS to pure coir.

A close up

Do you guys think that it is sufficiently colonized? I have already cased it, is it too early? I have lost 2 tubs prior to this tub. So i am abit jumpy about this tub.

This is the picture after i cased it with peat moss. I usually incubate it for about 3 full days, and then leave the tub in fruiting conditions.

You definitely cased too early. You're supposed to wait until full colonization.

Trich spores won't germinate on coco coir. If you're getting trich before your first flush, your spawn is dirty.

hmm it looks to be doing fine, even though that isnt the right kind of peat.

Thanks for the fast replies guys..

Brennus, anything i can do to increase my success rate knowing that i have cased too early?

And yea man galadar, i cant seem to find the correct casing materials. I used to be using dry straws, currently peat moss. But it still doesnt seem right, but i will continue searching for a better casing material.

Straight peat moss? It's going to be very alkaline I think and colonize very slow.

for future reference, coir tends to hold well enough moisture and has much surface area and texture on the top which promotes a good pinning environment.

i never case monotubs.

Thanks galadar, i have thought of using non cased monotubs, and should have gave it a shot. Anyways i will leave it uncased on the next tub.

You really shouldnt case anything that will have a 100% rh the only reason to case is to provide a good pinning enviroment i.e 100% rh.

I do not have 100% RH, and i honestly do not think i can achieve 100%. My RH currently stands at about 90% to 95%.

The only reason i cased is because i am still extremely new to this and i started off from casings, and is worried that i might screw up non casing. I will however try non casing monotub in the near future. Thanks xaxphaanes.

honestly I don't thing its the quality of the peat that is bad but more the kind of peat moss. Im no expert in casing so I don't realy know if your's will fail or not, and what to do to save it sry. You should wait until 100% colonization next time.

You want your tub at a lower humidity for pinning anyway.

Cyan's maybe but not cubes. 95-100% for cubes all the way through fruiting is fine.

Yeah that works, but 80-85% is better for pin formation, then raise the humidity, rather than keeping it constant all the way through. Allows for more evaporation.

why would you put your tub in an fc? last time i checked those things if made right were immune to misting and fanning..

Hi guys ^^ The post cased and incubated monotub is now ready for FC.

Was worried sick that it might turn out badly, but wasn't as bad as i thought, the casing looks well penetrated by the mycelium after 3 days of incubation.

So wat u guys think? Looks good? I made a mistake of not sticking the plastic bag properly and ended up having to cut it after i took the photos. The "messier sides" are now trimed but im worried about still water being trapped there. Would it contribute to the humidity or the chances of it habouring contaminants is high? Should i remove the whole substrate from the plastic manually and transfer directly to the monotub itself? I have no idea why i leave the substrate in the plastic bag when the tub isnt see thru.....

Anyways, here another pic of the tub

Sup Dionili? I meant FC as in fruiting conditions. I usually use fruiting chambers for casings.
