My Tick Story -- Negative, and Microscope!

I made a post about a week ago about how I got a tick that was in deep, and removed it improperly.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11471555#11471555
Just to be on the safe side, I took it to my county Mosquito commission and had it tested for the nominal fee of $25. The entomologist called me today:
1. He confirmed that it was a female deer tick--just as I thought. This is why I had it tested; female deer ticks are largely responsible for transmission of Lyme.
2. He tested it for Lyme disease, and it was NEGATIVE (w00t!)
3. When I was in the office, I caught sight of a big-ass microscope. I explained that I am an amateur mycologist--which was how I got the tick; I tend to do a lot of bushwhacking. Anyway, I asked for permission to use it to look at spores. He gave me the OK! He said that as long as he was in the office it would be fine.
It is not an oil immersion microscope; it is a powerful "dissection microscope." Regardless, he said that it is pretty high powered, and might be powerful enough to look at spores with.
I'm no expert on microscopes but this thing was about two feet high and was the biggest microscope that I've ever seen. Any thoughts? Will this work for spores?
The Lord works in strange ways.
w00t!

You will be able to see the spores with this microscope, but to see the fine details of them and measure them you want a compound microscope.
A dissection microscope might be ok for looking at cystidia. Its mostly good for soldering, electronics, looking at bugs, etc. Some people use a dissection microscope when preparing slides for viewing with a compound microscope.
For mycology you want one of these:

tyvm!
Those are more affordable than I expected. I thought that a decent oil immersion microscope would be $2000 and up.

You can spend $2000 on a scope and get a nice Olympus or Zeiss. The image quality will be a bit better and the light a bit brighter, but you can do everything you need to do on a $250 scope with no problem.
When ordering a scope make sure to get a reticle so you can measure the spores.

Can we get a tip on ideal reticle grid unit specification?
