Honey Tek Question

I have decided to try the honey tek because only 1 of my 20 agar dishes has remained uncontaminated. I was wondering which would be better. I have a 1 pint glass jar and a 1/2 pint glass jar. The reason I want to know which one is better is because I can only find 1 lid so I'll use it on whichever is best. thanks

If you have only one lid it makes sense to use a bigger jar....
At least to me it makes sense :smile: ,  I could be wrong thou :smile:

Yea, that was my initial thought also, but Im wondering... if I use the smaller jar the myc would be able to grow through all of it a lot faster and then I could tranfer it into my containers, let it grow some more and then start the fruiting. But then again I could be wrong..

I don't think you need to wait for the myc to grow through all of it. Just wait until you have a good chank in there, and then shake the sh** out of it to brake myc in to thousands of pices.... Thats all you need for inoculation I belive.

I use my coffee grainer to blend a tee spoon of PF cake to inoculate a pint jar of rue. Use a glow box to just spoon it inside the jar, then shake it really well. Extremely fast colonization !!!

What I was thinking was that if I wait until there are a few big chunks I could shake it to death and then pour it over my compost and let it colonize that. Im using the stuff that came with my kit (a Homestead kit) but trying other methods to get the myc started.

You can always buy more lids..

I've been using my colonized honey water to infect more jars of honey water, making an unlimited supply forever!
I've taken to putting little stainless steel screws in my jars before sterilization. This helps break up the mycos when they start to get thick.

Once I get started with these 2 jars.. I plan on buying a case of new ones.. get a bunch going at a time. Im also waiting to hear back about getting some unused needles from the local clinic. Until then I have to work with what I got.. lol
