Yo guys whos got a westfalia dehydrator? How much can you fit in one of those things?

Not enough:grin: a 2 shoe box harvest will fill it up. Not sure about weight maybe 500g.
Much easier than an oven though. I messed up a load of shrooms with the oven:frown:

Just preping rye grain for the first time. I got a 25kg bag from doves farm.
I gave it a rise and the water was still clear. It must have already been washed.
Its a lot less sticky than wbs.

I prefer metric my self

So 500g wet?

Make sure you stir it when you rinse it. It seems to knock off a lot of chaff/bran and the like.

I used to just rinse it but now I stir it and a lot more crap comes off.

I finally found those shoeboxes at a poundland. I only bought 4 to try them out. Now I want anoter 6-10 and they dont have em. I'm calling weekly to see if they are getting more in on there order.

Wondering if I should get 1 westfalia dehydrator at a time, up to 3, or get one of those nice ones on ebay for around 100...

Its a shame you cant get extra trays for them, I'm sure it could easily handle it.

I'm  really pleased with the rye I got. No sticky clumping like I used to get with wbs.

I find skimming the starch from the top of the pan whilst boiling/simmering rye is the best way to ensure good consistency. I stir and rinse 1st but it always comes out clear, I get nice organic rye from a local wholsale farmshop. Never used WBS, rye is the bollocks.

Hi i have found that you can get the syrup form of Malt extract from holland and barrett or other health food shops.

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=2963&prodid=3450

they are out of stock online atm, but if you go into the store you should be able to get some. Its £1.89 for a  454g jar of it. think i might go buy a jar 2moro.

Does anyone know of anywhere to buy cheap grass seed from? I know you can buy it from Scats, which is a countryside store. But It's really expensive. Online it seems to be at least £50 for 25kg of rye grass seed, where as you can pick up a 25kg bag of rye grain from doves farm for around £30 i believe. I am planning on growing mexicana A strain to produce sclorotia. I am wandering as i've heard that you can achieve simular results with rye grain as you can with grass seed, wether to just get some grain in. It would seem like the finacially sensible option.

unless of course someone here could help me find a cheap source of grass seed

Also if you are in the market for purchasing spores: www.mrcashop.org i believe it is one of the shroomery sponsers and  has a good selection. You can pay by card if you prefer instead of alot of other overseas vendors who want you to pay via western union or other dodgey bank transfers.  You might find this an easier service

ps. This is a great thread, good work people

I just bought a bag of that doves grain and I love it. If I where you I'd get the grain.

cool, thanks for the replys. Theres a wilkos near my gf's so i'll have a gander next time I'm over that way. Yeah I have purchased the rye grain from doves farm before and was very satisfied. 25kg for 20.50!!! shiver me timbers arrrrrrrrrrrrr, think I'll start with the rye and purchase some grass seed in a couple of weeks time.

By the way Base lcks do you grow your stones on standard preped rye grain or do you ever do the pre soak with weak coffee and a little gypsum?

Thanks for the replys, you've been very helpful

ps. I was eating some cookies earlier and saw your avatar cookie dude XD needless to say it brought on a few dodgey cookie monster impressions "MMMMmmmMMMMmmm Cookie cookie COOKIE"

I prep my rye with just like RR does. He doesn't show it in hid videos but he uses half strength coffee all the time. I also use gypsum in my soak. Some don't add it in the soak but add it later just to the jars. They argue that it will just go out with the water when you drain it.

I do it RR's way and it works for me. Thats all I can really say.

What jars in particular on that site are you looking at?

I use recyled food jars for grain jars.

:whathesaid:
I buy sainsburys basics curry for 9p a jar if i need a few extra's. At that price you can easily chuck the curry out and just use the jar.

Anypeeps have any experience/opinions about these guys w/r/t HEPA filters for flow hoods?:  http://www.airclean.co.uk/1510_HEPA_Filters.htm

I got a quote from them for a 2'x2'.  Fairly expensive (£177 delivered, inc VAT).

The guys that ozzysmygod mentioned upthread are cheaper, but don't seem to be able to sell me an H14-rated filter ATM.
