PS you guys ever get a letter in the mail with a stamp on it that just has a pen mark on it? I still cut em off and stick to packages so when I go to the PO they dont charge me as much to send it.

Just an idea, it may be helpful if all the useful little links etc were added to the starting post continually to build up a reference point where everything is contained. A few times I have trawled back through page after page to find a certain titbit of info

@ base;
nan man GH not operational yet, got no freakin space man, i built my 5 gal humibucket and it looks like its gonna rock, checking the outside(porch) temps, but im still hitting 40F - 50f little too low for any action. Got a SG on with a KO and LM block in just to keep me ticking over.
ON the link you sent i just seen a similar GH walkin style in B and M's ( ultimate cheapo shop, even more than wilkos) for 20 notes, low quality but same style as mine that Ive had for like 4 years now! Thinking my new humibucket gonna rock that shit.
I got a lotta lotta spawn bags looking for a home now!
Couple of nebro i finally got round to getting going.
And fuck my stone jars are looking proper 3 months in yes the MT cultures coming up trumps!
Got a nice tree oyster straw bag on, man i never smelt mycelium like it, like marzipan and aniseed. amazing! solarity rekons they'll pin in cold temps so maybe i;ll set the GH away with that in.

Sounds awesome man.
I'm just put reishi and p lint on grain again. I tried to make glcs out of my last jars and they didnt like it to say the least.
Going to get lions mane on grain soon too.
I want to get about ten reishi bags going.
I want to use 4 or so in a mono.
Heres a pic of my reishi bag from a few days ago.

I'm getting my own allotment this year. My partner on my last one was crazy.
I'm thinking about getting 7-8 meters of wood chips and making some pyramids out of them. Innoc with 4-5 species each. Stamets talks about it in MMGG. Kings stroph, oysters, shaggy mane, cyans, az, etc.

Never thought of an allotment for edibles... Nice idea, reckon you'd get people snacking on them though. Guaranteed to have some interesting conversations with other gardeners.

Nice pix Base Allotment would be great, someone would get a big surprise if they found an azur, stole it assuming it was an edible and made a soup out of it. lol. Would blow their socks off!
Where do you guys go to get good priced large storage boxes? I I can never find any decent ones that are sturdy and big enough with clear lids. Ones I've been using are less than ideal.

Another score for the UK supplies thread - I picked up that new 18L army surplus PC on flea-Bay, so thanks for the heads up Base and the reccomendation Fractal!
.... Alas not, when it arrived it had dings in the sealing surface so went back. However I did manage to pick up one of the electric ones ebay - (barely) used for less than half of the new price - these units have been mentioned here before. I did a dry run with 10 quart jars in at a squeeze, 7 with the inner bit in place.
They are built very solidily and I know andymyc likes his. The downside to them is that they are on full blast (2kw!) all the time so when they hit about 130psi the valve lets off a massive blast of steam every couple of minutes to maintain the pressure. - Scared the crap out of me the first time!
To get round this I built a 2kw "dimmer" for the element using about £10 of electronics from Maplin and a salvaged heatsink. Design courtesy of the distillers who need to do this sort of thing. I built the TRIAC/DIAC/Pot one halfway down this page - Use a 1M OHM pot for UK though at that is for 120V Or there is a summary of options here see TRIAC controllers and Phase Angle control.
First test gives a fantastic steady pressure, making this PC a really excellent piece of kit.

Actually I think he meant 130C. They don't show PSI, just degrees and MPa.
They hit 121C/15PSI in a snap

Mines got its own lock and ket and a 4 foot fence around it. I doubt the geriatrics are going to be jumping my fence

Yep my bad, I meant 130C (at about 23psi), runs higher than a PC ... but not that much higher!
Should save about 60p power cost on a 4hr run as it runs at about 8-900W to maintain pressure.

What a fantastic thread this is! I've spent all morning browsing it.
Anyway, here's my titbit: I know you're aware that Wilkinson is a great source of supplies such as shotgun tubs, vermiculite and perlite, but I was in there the other day and saw that they've also started selling calcium chloride aka "Kilrock Refill For Moisture Traps" for the bargain price of £3.48.
Incidently, I'm moving on up from PF Tek to grain spawn and would be interested to know of any recommendations for PC and grain jar combos i.e. what fits well. I've looked at the recommended 6L high tower prestige from Argos, and it looks a good bet if I can find some good (and cheap) jars that will fit into it neatly.

It's a good starter PC. You can fit a couple of quart/litre jars in it. Base Icks was able to do a lot with 800ml pasta jars in those PCs, I think.

Thanks for the heads-up on the PC / Pasta sauce jars combo. My mum is getting fed-up with me borrowing her cranky old PC for dubious 'winemaking' - if she only knew.
BTW for my PF-Tek, I've had perfectly good results without using jars at all. I use 250ml Right Price Mixer Glasses from Wilkinson at 79p for 4, and foil lids a la PF-Tek for Simple Minds. These are tapered just right for BRF cakes. Also for substrate purposes I've found it ALOT cheaper, and more available, to grind regular brown rice from Asda's.

I see no need to plumb for organic brown rice as there are no preservatives listed in the ingredients. Having tried both side-by-side together, I've noticed no difference in colonisation speed.

Prestige 6L high domes fit 4 750g dolmio jars nicely. Also fit the 500-600 jars 4 at a time from asda.
You can get 5 440g curry jars(9p) in there as well. You can even fit a spawn bag in there as well. though I never had any success with cube spawn in them. Did fine for edibles though. Might have been a problem on my end with clean spawn that I g2g'ed them with.
I rocked two 6L for 6 months or so. then I got fed up with it.
I got one of the 14L now. Can fit double if not a bit more.
I would suggest getting one of the SEB army surplus pc if you can find one in working order.
Last time I checked, 6L high done prestige at argos was 40£. I would spring the 20£ more or whaever and get the 18L seb if you have room to store it and a need for anything bigger than a 6L.
