In Stamens book "The Mushroom Cultivator" he shows a pic of Psilocybe tampanensis colonized on rye grass seed that was kept in refrigeration after full colonization for six months! :shocked:This is known as Sclerotia. A hardened mass of mycellium, usually darkly pigmented, that is in the resting (vegetative) phase in some fleshy and non-fleshy funji, and from which fruitbodies or viable mycellium can arise......My guess is thats how networks of mycellia survive winters underground and pop up mushrooms after months of dormacy

I used Hippie's Tek of PCing the popcorn for an hour and it worked amazing. The kernals were marble sized and squished when squeezed. Thumbs up again Hippie you just saved me 24 hours

I have a couple of questions
Is there anything i can do to sterilize quart jars without a pc besides fractional sterilization?
Also i have regular quart jars and im going to be casing how hard is it to get the substrate out of the jars? Can i just jam a sterile knife in there and break it up?

fugu has mentioned in this thread that the resulting mushrooms of popcorn are lacking in potency.

This is sad and dissapointing indeed.

Anyone have anything to add to this?

I don't think that's what he was saying.

I think he was challenging fugu's credibility.

Maybe if you used plastic lids on the jars you could "NUKE'em" (microwave sterilize)
Also i have regular quart jars and im going to be casing how hard is it to get the substrate out of the jars? Can i just jam a sterile knife in there and break it up?

No need to do use a knife one of the advantages of using popcorn is that it breaks up coming out of the jar so easily.Makes it real convinient when preparing to use for caseing
