Timing issue...PLEASE HELP!!!
    #1151395 - 12/18/02 10:54 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Say that on Tuesday pins from the first flush have formed on a small casing (50/50 verm and perl) cased exactly one week ago.  Due to unforseen circumstances the casing will need to be abandoned on Friday night since it can't be taken on the road.  Is there any way to maybe speed up the pins' growth so that they will be ready for harvest by Friday?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

If they already pinned keep them away from light. Keep good air exchange and humidity.

Thanks SixCee...absolute darkness, or can they get a little light?

Also, there is moisture on the sides of the container at the verm/perl level, does this show me that it is moist enough?

Thanks.

I say complete darkness as well, as mushies tend to grow bigger and better in the dark. Also, depending on how long you will be "on the raod" you could light them unti lfriday, in an attempt to slow down the growth. Then, in darkness right before you leave. You should have a nice batch waiting for you upon your return.

i also agree with sixcee. he has always given good advice that i've seen. how big are they now compared to when you posted? are the veils stretching? 3 days can be enough to mature a small 'un.

if you're coming back, you should look forward to a nice healthy 2nd flush on your return. if not, do an 'extraction' on the corpse, to drink it's last blood.

Thanks Newbie2000 and Shirley Knott...I will be gone for probably at least three weeks. I assume that is too long to let them sit unattended so I figured I'd just have to abandon this casing.

So does the 2-3 hours of light per day hinder growth once pinning has occurred?
