New strain

Hey, I just bought a 'new strain' on Ebay, Here's the description:
"One 10-12cc. Water filled luer lock syringe with thousands of P.Cubensis spores for study under magnifaction. All prints used were half dollar size or bigger ONLY!Two strains genetics from around the world have been mixed . Thailand Koh strain known for short large fruits and Puerto Rican strain known for its high potency If you are traveling to a european country where you can cultivate these..You would have a new strain. See symerical shape of the various different geneotypes. Warm up the microscope! Guarenteed sterile of contams so Identifaction of the spores is exact..Shipping is 1.50..Always same day or next shipping. No shipments to California Or Georgia..Pictures sole property of a genourous European source. Thanks for the 2nd generation prints also!..No duplication of pics Thanks and happy bidding.... "
Okay, okay. I am pretty sure that this is not a new strain. Any hints, is this just a sham? Here's a photo (small)
Please help.... Cheers

Yes it is a sham, you have a syringe containing both PR and Thailand Koh spores, thats it. I think there may have been a question about this before too.

Thanks, now I guess the next question is whether one type of mysleium will overtake the other, causing any problems or depleting substrate? Is this fine?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I know a few people here have experimented with inoculating two strains in a jar, however I have not seen any sort of experiment such as this. It is posible somebody has tried it, doing a search may yeild the results you are looking for. Anno or another advanced cultivator may be able to comment on this as well. What I could perceive happening is small patches of PR and KOH(? don't remember other strain) colonizing the substrate. Fruits would probably sprout from both strains. though I do not imagine fruiting would be very strong or prevelant...then again I could be completely wrong.

Its not a sham..Two spores with different genetics will join together and form a new strain...Mycleium can not join after the spores germinate to produce a new spore only the spores developing together..I RESENT ANYONE ACCUSING ME OF RUNNING A SHAM......

Monokaryotic hyphae can intersect with very closely related hyphae of differing varieties but not species, creating a new variety. This is best done on agar as separating the "hybrid" from the other strains would need to be done microscopicly,or at least in a series of separations before you isolated this "hybrid"variety Just mixing spores will either give weak cultures of both or one will dominate, the chances of the hybrid being the most vigorous are small as the actual proximity of the germinating spores determines the hyphae which will connect. In a mass inoculation there is absolutly no guarantee that a hybrid will form in fact it is most unlikely unless MANY inoculations are done and the one sport is collected for spores then restarted or cloned.WR

okay, good luck. thought i'd get in on the ground floor on this one, cos it's gonna POP baby, and i wanna be there...
i tried to read your link in the advanced forum, and was very impressed with the theodude, and so, yes, theoretically it's not impossible. but would you need a maximum impossibility drive (search under zaphod) to succeed ?
what are the chances, realistically?

Heres the true test..Take a treasure coast white albiono..clone it and then cross it with a mexican(has no veil or viel ring dont remember which){not mexicana}...After a few generations I bet you will find a albino without a veil(or ring..Sorry dont remeber which I read this cube does not have.....That would be a 100% guarantee that the genetics were exchanged...

Ok, it seems that this could be a great topic to discuss; just remember that we are all human beings here and able to have a NICE discussion without flames. I would personally love to here more about this, with the wealth of knowledge on this site I think we could figure it out.

So stop telling us about it and show us the pictures of you doing it...I mean if your selling a new strain with such enthusiastic hype you would have probably done so yourself right? So show us this new super shroom or albino mazaptec...or fall under the pretext of false advertising because you really don't know what your selling.

Well, I went out and partied at my buddy's. Smoked a joint, came home, decided to check my computer...... and WHOOSH!!!
Ok, did not mean to start a controversy Blue, all things considered, just wanted the straight poop.
Do you think it will work? It would be interesting to see a new strain, but I am worried that all I'll get is a shitty crop or two competing entitites. Now I bought it and agreed to all terms so I am not complaining, just curious.
Regardless, I will document the entire process and submit it in a couple of months. Watch for it.
I understand why you were defensive and it took guts to stand up for your product.

In reply to:

What about a black albino? Oh, and many times, albinos seem to be unable to produce spores, so there'd be no transmission of genetics.

Will it fruit, probably, will it produce a new strain, very unlikely, to nearly impossible.

I will quote Teonan from your post about this in advanced cult.
In reply to:
The true success of the hybrid would be if it produced fruits that had spores. Only at this stage would the true hybrid STRAIN be accomplished. No genetic information is exchanged between the two strains until their seperate haploid nuclei have fused and then undergone meiosis. Recombination would then occur between the two seperate strains forming a third strain. It's offspring(spores) would be new combinations of the two donor strains.
Why aren't you selling the spores from your new "strain"?

Can you please explain how you went about making this "new strain"? You say that the proof that you're not a sham is in that link you posted to the adv. cult. forum. Well all I get from that link is that Teonan knows his shit, and that it's gonna be very complicated and difficult to succesfully create a new strain by crossing already existing strains.
I'm not trying to say that you're full of shit, or are ripping anyone off, but if all you did was mix two types of spores in a syringe, fact is, that's not a new strain, just a syringe with the spores of two strains.
So if that's all you've done, do not go and claim you've made a new strain, and don't try and sell it as such. Because that IS a sham.

Ha!
Ralphster, when I look at that picture I can't escape asking: "Why are you growing shrooms in your sister's room?"
At any rate, I will grow the solution, and post a very detailed grow log in the appropriate forum. Thanks Ralphster, for showing us what is likely to happen. I really appreciate it.

this experiment would have a different result every time its tried . the only constant would be a mixed bag of competing mycilia causing retarded growth of all strains . even if a more vigorous hybrid did occur ,it would be massively outnumbered and would have vary little chance of servival.
