Getting the cakes out
    #1149989 - 12/17/02 06:04 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Ok I finally got a couple cakes colonized enough and birthed them, but wow were they a bitch to get out of the jars. I ended up damaging them, one I had to cut in half the other partially cut and the other part of it was crumbled. So I put them into the terrarium as is.

Forgive anymistakes, I'm drunk and stoned tonight, you might call it "Strunk".

ANyone know any ways to get the cakes out of the jars better? I tried banging it on a table and tapping the sides, it took a long time to get them out. This is one reason I can't wait to get started on some casings.

That's odd. Mine just slid right out. I just needed to tap the underside of the jar. How much water did you use in the substrate?

I think it was 1/3 or 1/4 cup in each 1/2 pint jar.
The only thing I can think of is maybe they were packed in too hard, but I thought I took extra care to loosely put it in.

If I wasn't such a stoner I'd be way better at this, but then again, if I wasn't such a
stoner I probably wouldn't be doing this either haha.

Oh yeah and to answer your question, no there wasn't any wierd odor, they just smell like mushrooms

They did look like they had mycelium all the way through, so I think they should recover ok without contaminating. At least I hope so. Except maybe the crumbled part, think it's too late to case those crumbled pieces without causing contamination?
