small fruits..
    #1149470 - 12/17/02 04:29 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

I noticed that my fruits (eq's) are really small... about 2.5" tall, and mature (the caps are already opening), and I was wondering what the problem is.  Is it that I'm not giving them enough water?  They're cased in straight verm, and get a good misting once or twice a day, fanned about 3-6 times a day, kept at a steady temperature of 76 degrees.

Any input would be great  thanks guys

Is the casing made from PF Style cakes? If so did you dunk them? What is the rh in your terrerium?

I have heard that substrate depth would be the main factor.

don't really know what the humidity is, but it's high enough to leave some water droplets around the sides of terarium.  and yes, it's made from 2 PF cakes, with a 3/4 inch casing layer above the crumbled cakes.

yeah, i never heard about dunking cakes before casing until just recently, and it actually seems to make sense.  so next batch will be dunked, cold shocked, then cased

and don't worry, they'll get eaten

I just harvested my first batch of EQ's using the Myco bag. All of mine weret he same size as yours (about 2.5" - 3" ) but I had three big daddies - the biggiest being almost a foot tall. They all worked though. SO i say eat em up!

"dunked, cold shocked, then cased ".

You wanna dunk them > Case them > let them colonize casing layer > then cold shock em.
