PNW question
    #11494635 - 11/20/09 07:49 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I badly want to get out and hunt, but what kind of timeframe do I have?  When would be the best time to go out and hunt?

I believe this question is somehow against the rules, just so you know.

However the season is coming to a close, as the temps drop. Generally people accept the first frost of the winter as signaling the end of the season. The season is still active, as you can tell from the PNW active thread. The best time to go out and hunt would be NOW. First, you should do some research by looking through the tab titled "Mushroom Info", "Finding Mushrooms", etc. Then start looking, ASAP, if you hope to find any this season.

6.  No asking when or where mushrooms, or a specific mushroom species will grow.
This includes, asking what habitat a mushroom[s] can be found- or their preferred fruiting conditions.  This can be very simply answered by using the "search posts" feature: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php

That rule is a little vague and should be updated.

For example, using the search function won't yield the habitat or season for Psilocybe rzedowski.

I doubt that someone who needs to ask when to look for mushrooms has ever even heard of Psilocybe rzedowski.

Well, you answered your own question. Because always answering the same old questions when the answers are readily available through the search function is a nuisance.

Do you doubt that someone who has heard of Psilocybe rzedowski needs to ask when and where it grows?

I've heard of it, I don't know what season it grows in though.

Though, I do understand the point of the rule.

I'm an experienced Psilocybe hunter.  I've never heard of P. rzedowskii.  Pardon the parody, but if if anyone knows about this species habitat/season, let me know.  I'd rather not do a new post for it, in fear of being put in  my place, so I might as well hijack this one.

Anybody who properly researches the habitats, characteristics, etc. of a certain mushroom should be able to just as easily find the seasonal information within the same articles. Not to slam the OP, but spending a little extra time doing some research will not only help in the long run, it will also answer questions that haven't even been thought of, yet.

Now I'm interested in this P. rzedowskii, too... haha.

Thats interesting......this P rzedowskii deserves some smarty pants reading time.

yo man, how'd your hunting go?

best time to go in my opinion is when its light out, and you find yourself at home not doing shit....ie-sittin on the couch on the shroomery talking about hunting ;p

i just got back from an unyielding hunt....but....the good news is theres always tomorrow.

good luck bro.

So far this year I've only seen Panaeolus cinctulus and if you actually count Amanita muscaria, that too. I've spent a considerable time out in the field, but I have avoided urban walks. One day it will all work out. I'm pretty sure of that.

As a newbie, the best advice I can give about hunting and this forum is Be patient! Watch for trends about what people are finding and apply that to your own knowledge and locations. You are the best source of answers ( besides ID'ing particular specimens)
Good luck to you.
