Impulse Sealer temp?
    #1149266 - 12/17/02 03:16 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Anyone know how hot the element on an impulse sealer gets? I'm thinking you could replicate one with your oven rack, and oven set to correct temp. I'll be buying an impulse sealer asap, but until then... my iron has been giving me troubles.

I don't know the temp. The instructions that came with mine were an incomprehensible hodgepodge of six different languages, sometimes all within the same sentence. But then again, I got a 12" sealer for like $15 + shipping. Check ebay, they are usually a little more than that these days, but you could find a deal.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

I?d tink the temperature should be somewhat above the melting temperature of polypropylene, which is at around 130?C, so let?s say 150-160?C.

well if your geekoid like me you have an infrared temperature probe (very useful when working on or around hot (literally) circuits). If not then get one of those digital kitchen thermometers that has the separate metal probe (usually like 8 inches long and designed to pierce meat). I have used mine to measure temps as high as 400 degrees. How hot do you think the thing is? I really don't know, maybe it runs too hot to use something like this? My infrared unit measures up to 800 degrees fahrenheit!

I guestimated somewhere 160?C (320?F).

It is great for analyzing hot spots in circuitry (think amplifiers or processors). I've burned my fingers on more than my share of hot chips. Once you have one you find all kinds of uses for them though.

Its used to seal autoclavable spawn bags. Its kind of like a food saver but without the vacum. Check .mycosupply.com

yes, it's for sealing autoclaveable bags, for spawn. I am trying to generate spawn en masse, and jars are a little too bulky for the incubator, in my opinion.

In reply to:

From what i've read the melting point of PP (polypropylene) is around 160-170 oC.
