How do I get good 2nd flushes?

My casings ( Birdseed cased in 50/50+) always have a good intial first flush, but after I harvest and patch it up, I can never seem to get another flush...only maybe 3-4 fruits will come up. I always mist it real good after the first flush ( Bout 15 good squirts) ..and hope that would rehydrate the substrate under the casing......My 2 questions are: What other small steps can I take so that I can get some decent 2nd flushes? How can I ensure that the second set of pins will make it without aborting?

millet also drys out fairly fast, I would try maybe mixing some damp verm into your substrate, or spawning the millet into some straw/compost/dung, this will definantly increase your yields.

Yes I hope to graduate and do some bulk spawn with some straw and get into that area a little later, maybe in the spring...Adding something that doesnt dry out as fast as millet makes sense, and ill add a little verm to my next batch of substrate.
So if my recipe for my birdseed substrate is 2/3 cup of seed to 1/2 cup of water, how much more water/verm should i add? 1/3 cup verm with another 1/2 cup water, sound good more or less? Thanks.
