3 grams of cambos, oh you're gonna have so much fun. I'm jelous. At one point in the trip, just sit back and close your eyes, amazing CEV, at least when I tripped on cambos.

Make sure the heater is FULLY submersible. I have bought a couple heaters that said submersible, but could not be put completely under water.

i believe that i know the solution to your problem. i have a 50W aquarium heater and i had the same problem.i put my hand in the water and it was cold. but when i put my hand veeery next to the heater i saw that it was very hot. so the problem is that the water doesnt move. buy a bubbler or how they call it so to make the water move;-) that was the solution for me! sorry for my shitty english

Try using 2 or more heaters, the problem is that there is no distribution of heat throughout the water. Believe me I've been there and done that - with one heater - it just isn't efticient enought. One on each of the 4 walls of the container is better - although it cost more. But lets face it, most of here on this board want to grow more than one batch of mushroonms - so its better in the long run. To use the fish tank heaters its not worth it unless the optimal temperatures are reached. After all we all want mushrooms as quicly as prossible.

Hello,
I have been reading your post. My suggestion try a larger underwater heater. 250W-300W - These work like a charm. I have never had an issue with them.
Good Luck!!

I use just one 75 watt submersable in my incubator and it works fine. Four heaters, that'd be around a hundred dollar investment, you are nuts.

50w heater should be fine for up to 15 gal. of water. what you need my dear is pationts . ya see both the heat element and a bi-metal thermostat are sealed inside that glass tube .the thermostat is actually sensing the temp of the air in the tube ,not the water .(glass is a fairly good insulator)the air inside the tube has to cool before the heater will come on again .and the water is heated by the glass so it might take up 8 or 10 hrs. to bring the water up to temp. hope that makes sense to ya.

thanks all for the helpful advice - a nice example of tips and hints.
today i took your advice and got me a new heater (100W, as it was the same price as the 50) and a bubbler stone. my air pump feeds this and the terrariums. the bubbler, as close as possible to the heater, shifts water about just fine, and it's heating nicely. here:

incidentally, the heater (?20) came with a nice table re volumes/wattages - something like this:
tank volume / L 25 50 100 200 etc.. to increase by 5C 50W 50W 100W 150W to increase 10C 50 50 100 200 to increase 15C 100 100 200 2x200
thanks all once again.
by the way, for those interested, 3g dry cambos gave me about a level 2, i'd say. i'm doubling up for experiment 2!
