re-hydrating a casing
    #1148576 - 12/17/02 11:37 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I had made a straight verm casing out of 2 B+ cakes. I had a very uneven pinset. and the first mushrooms i picked off the casing yesterday are substainially larger than the ones i picked tonight, there all about the same length, but the latest ones are thinner stem and smaller caps. I think its because my casing might be to dry. Im not really sure though. I also have lots of tiny primordia, white dots, that dont seem to be forming into pins, they have been just sitting there for the last couple of days.

Anyway how can rehydrate my casing...can i just spray the top of it or should i inject with a syringe in multiple spots? also what kind of water should i used..can i use reguluar tap water, or boiled atleast? if u cant answer any of these questions, cause there kinda confusing can som1 direct me to a tek.

You can actually go as far as filling up the whole casing pan or whatever with water as to dunk it like that. I haven't tried it myself, but I believe it works.

once i needed to re-hydrate it while it had shrooms on it and i did it with a syringe full of boiled water + a bit of H2O2. I stuck the needle inside the casing in several places and poured some.

It worked perfectly but it needs no over-doing.

I have also helped a casing that was attacked by cobweb by injecting H2O2 twice a day for two days. The cobweb dissapeared and the casing made two poor flushes - but it was condemned at the beginning!

Thats what happened to me. I am no expert though

unfortunetly, i didnt read your post intime and i may have added to much water to my casing..about 30cc's. I hope this works, and thanks for your help kykeon.

also my entire casing has a blue tinge to it, maybe the mycelium is starving for water? I'm not sure.

this blue on the casing might well be by the harrassment you made to it. Psilocybian mycelium turns into blue when its touched or annoyed.

good luck!

if you got a flush you did somthing right.1st flushes arn't usualy the best.those little white dots are mushies waiting to happen.i'm no phd but i have found the more you fuck with it the worse off you are.leave it alone (if it too wet leave the top off for a bit).and wait on that second third and fourth monster flush!!happy farming

I guess it worked because im seeing those dots forming heads now.
But im a little worried about a such uneven pinset, this flush has been going for 3 days now, and i read somewhere you should harvest within a 24 hour period.
