Doug fir substate?
    #11481048 - 11/18/09 09:20 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I'm killing my lawn with Doug Fir Wood chips over cardboard (veggie garden this summer!)and I wonder if there are any good edibles I could spawn to it. I don't really know what works on soft wood chips...Any ideas?

If it was earlier in the season, you could spawn P cyanescens to it.  I've also grown a lot of edibles on douglas fir substrate blocks.  It does better if you mix it with hardwood sawdust, but the douglas fir chips will give some nice mushrooms.  I don't know of anything you could spawn it with now that would fruit before you tear it up next year.

Don't mix the chips into your garden soil.  Save them for the edges and paths.

Thanks RR. I put a few Cyan stem butts in one corner with cardboard but it was pretty late in the season...

I've never really understood the chips in garden soil problem. Is it a nitrogen leech?
