The best way I can describe what I experienced was being able to see things for what they really are.

Obviously you weren't seeing things as they really were because you were still projecting an emotional overtone onto what should have been totally neutral events.

If you were to see things as they really are, dispassion would be the result, not depression.

Keep digging a little deeper...

Man Ive been plagued with such thoughts for a while now...I hate having that perspective on the world. If I could go back I would never have started thinking about the meaninglessness of life and the non-existence of god. Ive been focusing on consciously directing my thoughts towards the excitement and wonder in life, things are very slowly beginning to improve.

I had a trip that was kind similar, I believe that shrooms will show you what you need to see though. The way I look at it now is that by seeing life at its darkest I can walk through what people would call a disaster and still realize that things aren't that bad. Seeing true darkness makes you a stronger person. That and understanding that what you said about your friend is truly what life is in a certain aspect, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it helps me enjoy life more when you have no real expectations or aspirations, it helps you find the beauty in the small things in life.
