Mini suplimented straw logs- Thanksgiving Harvest pics

so a while back i was making counter top oyster grow bags for friends and family. it is an idea i created myself and it is the best to give to people who have no clue what they are doing. they look like this p
since they are so easy to make i decided to give cubes a shot the same way (basically so this is how its done
I know 100% straw would do the the trick but then they wouldn't be supplemented, i feel the more diverse the substrate the better the yields i get, but these are STRAW LOGS! well kinda there more like cubes by the time they colonize. so i mixed coir/poo/verm/gypsum/paper to my liking then matched that with cut up straw. got my hands in there and mixed it all up thoroughly. when i saw the sub i would normally use i loaded it all into a laundry bag with fairly large holes. I then shook out everything i could leaving only the supplemented straw left in the bag (save the other good stuff for other bags) loaded up the pillow cases and got to work the next day you start off with Medium Spawn Bags 18" high * 8" wide * 5" deep. it is possible to use the larger ones buy you need a lot more extra spawn and sub then you think.(i can only fit 4 of these bags into one pillow case for pasteurization) layering the spawn in the bags is extremely important because it is almost impossible to massage the bags. Also you need to fill up all 18 inches in the spawn bag;by the time its done colonizing it will be an inch below the filter patch. from there you can fruit the whole thing. simply cut off the top of the bag and leave a good 3 inches or so as a sock on the bottom. and place in fruiting chamber or larger bag.and im sure crumbling and casing would do wonder.two would fill a nice sized monotub.

i would be more then glad to answer any question

a picture my girlfriend drew that was depicting the block placed in a regular filter patch bag- it fits fine mist at least twice a day arrows top to bottom -clips- you dont want the bag sealed nead some FEA during fruiting -the straw log -plastic sock - to prevent contact to perlite -perlite- you want 5 inches

i have used laundry baskets. but that was for oysters i have only used these small bags to make logs for cubes. they are heavier then you would think. and only one quart to colonize a log

Bulk substrates such as straw logs don't perform as well in a shotgun terrarium as they would in a mini-greenhouse, or outdoors if the warm spring rainy season has arrived in your area. RR
so what i had been doing is over-misting my logs then hooking up a coolmist to my shotgun to dry out the blocks(but still with humid air).I would do this a few times a day i was near 100% rh they were getting a tremendous amount of FAE. then my father died. so i wasnt exactly able to take care of them for a few days, and now not sure if i want to eat them... but anyway check out my mini supplemented straw logs . the one in the middle has wet rot bacteria.
its "AA+" on the left and a redboy clone that has been used in g2g atleast 20 times on the right.

they look straight up sick pin wise. You could always try putting a close hanger in the middle. So you can hang them in your grown room.
When the straw colonizes it will gain strength so the straw wont break in half just dont make it too big.

The wet rot will only get worse and will only spread if there is uncolonized substrate for it to get ahold of. I've fruited trays, jars, "blocks" next to eachother that had a little wet rot but this never spread to my additional otherwise mostly healthy projects, even left for a couple or three days. ~P~
EDIT: iam also glad that you and Noobie are still around.

The fruits look really funny, but, at the same time, there is only a single quart of grain in each block. Neat pics. ~P~
