Can someone land a hit with 1000X the force of gravity using their arm?
    #11476296 - 11/17/09 10:40 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

With over 2000 pounds of force, equivalent to the impact of a car crash into a brick wall without a seat belt going 135 miles per hour?

Think it's impossible?

Force = mass*acceleration

2000 pounds force = 8896.44323 newtons

mass of arm = 5 kilograms (guess)

8896.44323 = 5 * a

a = 1779.288646 meters/second^2

Can you accelerate your arm that quickly?  Probably not.

can you tell how much force is exerted through watching / scanning a video file?

So the force of gravity is two pounds?  :wtf:

I guess Ill comment some more... Using force multipliers (like levers, hydraulics etc.) an arm can exert any arbitrary amount of force on something.  I have lifted my car with my arm many, many times.  This is a often a point of confusion with students, they get confused between the ideas of force, acceleration, work and power.

Smitington - Remember that its the sum of forces that equals ma - its Formula: 0 not Formula: 1.  So what you wrote isnt true in general.  For example, you can press on a table real hard with alot of force and get zero acceleration.

I wonder what is so philosophical about this topic?

Quote from National Geographic - Fight Science

Quote:

Craig's strike landed at 21 miles an hour with 1000X the force of gravity, more than 2000 pounds of force.

Great show, it's all about the science behind various types of martial arts -

What i still havn't worked out is why the force breaks the bricks but not his bones..? I mean, If I hit a wall with all my force, i think I would break my hand rather than make a dent.

has it got to do with releasing pressure at the right time or something?

waves of force?

resonance?

whats going on?

it tells you in the documentary.  there's a link to it posted above if you didn't catch it.

each time the bone get hurts it grows stronger.  so they just keep hurting their bones and they just keep getting stronger.  this is also Muay Thai training (also shown in the video)

and if the couple bricks at the bottom didn't break, all the pressure would come back at him 2 times just as hard... it's crazy.

well, ive seen lots of clips from the docco and I don't remember getting an answer that satisfied. Yeah I heard that you can strengthen bone by hitting things. But that effect seems only significant with regards to making your bones stronger than someone elses bones.. not make your bones strong as metal!

Which part talks about this? And the way that the force would come back if he didnt break them all?

you must have missed out on some clips because the full explanation is there.  i can't remember the exact details so you'd have to watch the full thing.  it's REALLY GOOD.

Wolf's law

btw I've heard in Thailand they only use pads to get their Wolf's law on, all that beating your shins bullocks doesn't go on there.
