This is
1)Growing on dead oak but when growing on dead elm is more pink.
2)no gills or that stuff that looks like white coral type pores.
3)no stem
4)no real smell(but may smell more if picked)
5)growing way of the ground
When i first saw these i thought they were bats hidding in the ivy
but on closer looking there were about 4 hundred on 1 dead limb of oak
(Quercus Robur)
i know its not active and prob not edible but was just wondering what they may
be as nothing close seems to be in my book.

Auricularia auricula
If you're in Europe then it's probably A. auricula otherwise it could be A. polytricha. They're probably the same species anyway.
It's very likely that you already ate it in a chinese restaurant.

You can also dry them for later use. You just put them in water 1h before cooking and they regain their fresh form.

It's a bit late for other mushrooms. I've also found lots of these "wood ears" last week and nothing else. Taking a sterile spore print should be quite difficult, I think that entire surface is spore bearing. I also tried to clone it several times and always failed.

Don't blame me if you'll be disappointed.  They don't have much taste, they're prized for texture & medicinal properties.
