I'm currently writing up a little scrapbook on all the mushrooms known so far and I've made a list of about 100 or so known poisionous species of mushrooms and I thought it would be a neat idea to share the list for reference, some of the names may not be current since I am using older references from 1999 to compile my scrapbook, if anyone knows of any not included on this list please feel free to contribute:

Conocybe filaris is another deadly one - contains amatoxins.

Panaelous sphinctrinus is not a poisonous mushroom. None of the Panaeolus are toxic.
Gymnopilus pentetrans is not toxic. None of the Gymnopilus are toxic.
Also, don't capitalize the species name, only the genus name.

Gymnopilus pentetrans is on there because It's Edibility is suspected as poisonous. Too many mushrooms out there to say there is no toxic Gymnopilus and thanks Ashton I'll add it to the list.

These are not toxic:
(Dung Fungus)Panaelous Sphinctrinus Penetrating Agaric (Gymnopilus Pentetrans) Brick Cap (Hypholoma sublateritium) Veridigris Russula (Russula Aeruginea) Beautiful coral fungus (Ramaria Formosa) Pale coral fungs (Ramaria Pallida)

So in order to find them listed as toxic does that mean someone at some point had a bad experience with them Alan?

There may be many mushrooms out there but that doesn't change the fact that G. penetrans is not toxic. None of the known Gymnopilus mushrooms are toxic.

I was going to add H. sublateritium to my first post but wasn't quite sure. Thanks for the clarification, Alan.

Alright, was just unsure cause I see Gymnopilus penetrans listed as suspected toxic. I appreciate all the input though.

some times it's a mistake. e.g.
1. one book states that a species has been suspected in a poisoning and a second book publishes that it is toxic.
2. a species may be misidentified in a poisoning incident, and that incident used in a future book.
3. one person my be hospitalized with a false alarm of poisoning because of paranoia or indigestion.

You also don't have Chlorophyllum molybdites which is one of the most common species involved in mushroom poisonings in North America. (source)

Most mushrooms can cause indigestion if eaten raw. Chitin, it makes up the cell walls of fungi, is hard to digest. I think this is another reason why some are listed as suspect.
I've eaten a raw morel in the past and got a bad stomach ache, though they are tasty and easy on the stomach if cooked.

Yeah I was reading that Danny. Some call it Conocybe Filaris or Pholiotina Filaris lol. Think most people just know it as Conocybe Filaris though. Yes Chlorophyllum molybdites forgot that one aswell thanks.
