If there is anything UFC has taught us.. it's that to be well rounded is the best method.
This was also Bruce Lee's philosophy, to excel in everything and nothing. Use the most efficient movements possible without confining yourself to a particular 'style'.
MMA probably wouldn't exist the way it does today if it weren't for him.
I agree that striking is the quickest and most effective way to take someone out. You don't WANT a fight to end up on the ground. Ideally you want the fight over in the first 3 seconds.
But if it does end up on the ground, which many street fights do.. the person with submission grappling experience is going to dominate the person with none every time, I don't care how big he is.

i think people put too much reliance on BJJ and forget that they should use it as an accompaniant art.

i think a lot of MMA fights are a joke and a lo of the fighters are. however then there are those that rock. i dont personalloy watch a lot of it.

alot are sloppy, i think its really totally up to the fighter, but UFC has a ton of rules and a street fight doesnt, big difference.

Anyone currently fighting in the UFC is very dangerous and would be very hard to beat in a street fight. Not all of them are world class fighters, but they all can take a punch and have the cardio/fight conditioning... they all have BJJ training (rare to find someone with less then a brown belt, majority are black) along with whatever striking background.

Sure there are rules, but I don't believe there's many people on the street that go directly for eye gouging/groin strikes/small joint manipulation... it's a non-issue IMO... the VERY large majority rely straight up on boxing (which they have no training in anyway).

I follow MMA religiously, seen every single UFC fight EVER.

Anderson Silva is my favourite, I believe he's the best fighter that has ever lived. You call it boring, but he would KILL anyone on the street in seconds.

One fight against that guy takes as much time off your life as a lifetime of smoking

And thats in the ring. In a back alley with combat boots on his feet and no rules.. :bye:

That's what a lot of people in this thread don't realise.

These guys could stand there and you could take a 100% swing straight into their face and you would NOT knock them out. They can take dozens, even 100's of punches over 15-25 minutes from people that have been training for 20+ years.

There's a difference between a person that studies martial arts and a trained fighter... I definitely wouldn't want to come up against the later. It's all good having the skills to dish it out, but having a strong chin and being able to take them is what makes champions.

The kicks of these trained fighters, you wouldn't ever get a chance to throw a single punch.

Kicks to the legs would collaspe most people limbs, kicks to the body would break ribs and a kick to the head would be instant KO.

It's just a whole different game.

STAL bc not sure about boxing.

The last thing you want from me is a crack to the jaw because you're done; the last thing I want is a quick little fucker that can get fifty filthy little hits in before I have enough room to take him down.

You little bastards :shakefist:

ALL OF YOU!
