Feedback on my tubs? Pictures! ***UPDATE 12/22- Pins?**
    #11471238 - 11/16/09 11:52 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Seriously, thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I just checked the two 65 quart dubtubs I spawned 11/05 and found this...

TUB 1

TUB 2

Yeah that's a whole bunch of standing water at the bottom of the tubs.  I'm now officially sold on using trashbag liners.  So, I went ahead and opened up the dubtubs to drain out the water and get a good picture of the substrate.

and

TUB1

and

TUB2

OK so to be honest I trust you guys, but it didn't make sense to me how the tub could produce as much RH as is reported.  Well with all that water in the tub I've seen the light.  As you can see in the above pics, there is a lot of moisture on the substrate layer.  What do you recommend I do about that?  And from what you can see of the surface, how much does it have left to go before full colonization?

Right now I have a lid sitting on the tubs waiting to hear from you guys before I put the dubtubs back together.  I hope I didn't screw it all up be introducing fresh air for too long by opening it up.  Help?

Also, here's a tub I spawned 11/12.

45 gallon.  So I hear that air flow like from fanning causes evaporation which causes pinning.  Since I'm not home a lot, could I install a pair of computer fans on that sucker on a timer to produce air flow across it while alternating a cool mist on another timer to increase the RH?  In about 2 weeks I'm gonna have 2 more of those suckers ready.

Oh, and the tubs are 2:2:1:1 +5% coir/verm/black kow/coffee +gypsum with a ratio of 1:3.  24 total quarts substrate at 4".  PESH.

you should just poke holes in the bottom of the tub, maybe throw down a layer of dry verm or better yet perlite to keep myc. from any standing water.

what ever you do do not put vermiculite in the bottom of your
tubs this will only lead to contamination
i would suggest taking it out of the tub and placing it in a new one
or clean and dry that one out

also tape the trash bag to the side of your tub
that way any water that drips down will be reabsorbed
by your substrate and wont collect in the bottom

Hmm, I don't really have enough of the bag left to tape it to the tub.  Is the moisture not being absorbed really a big deal right now?  I have little puddles on the my substrate as it is.

I guess I'll have to give it a whirl.  I'm reading that the standing water might not be a big deal on the substrate, but the posts are a little older.  Is it necessary to do anything about it at all?

Oh and what about the idea for computer fans on my larger tub to support evaporation for pinning?

i wouldnt use the fans that might dry out your sub
plus it will drop your humidity
and for the water on the surface of the sub
if theres big pools just use a clean paper tower
and dab it up

Thx noobie, I read a conflicting post or two about using the paper towel so that's nice to hear.

One more thing: how much does these have left to go ya think?

New pics.

TUB1

TUB2

TUB3

SO, I freaked about tub2 and went dump it outside.  When dumping it outside it broke apart real easy which sucked.  Is there anything special I should do to it?  Can you guys tell me whats going on with the two spots on each end of the tub?

What about the other two?  Close to fruiting?

I lost that tub and my four buckets failed but I thought they would anyway (tried salvaging some stalled cakes).  I might switch to smaller mini tubs in the future.

Tub 2 is fucked it looks like, there are two different mycelliums growing in it, and the intruder is likely trich.

None of the pictures that are in my gallery, are mine. They were found using google image.

This is all fake.

2 different myceliums huh?  Does that happen often?

I already tossed that sucker outside... should I cover it with something?  And I'm really curious what you guys think about how long the other 2 tubs have left.

i cant really tell from the pic but i would just pour the water out so its not standing and keep tub two away from tub 1.
and yea i have used the little tiny fans for ram or laptops to exchange air  worked fine on a timer. only i had silicon as a seal and the fan was sucking air out as my cool myst came in the other side. both on a timer. this was before the sgfc was discovered. but i used perlite and had a drain hole too lol
times have changed.

The standing water at the beginning of the post was from a little while back and I emptied it out.  As for Tub 2, I threw that sucker outside, there was a greenish tint to that patch so I decided not to fuck around.

Tub 2 definitely has trich before it has begun to sporulate,

good call dumping it, when they are infected they always just crumble to pieces with no effort at all,

Heh, thanks dude.  I was kinda wondering if I was a little rash, because as soon as I saw that crap the tub was emptied.

Any thoughts on how my other two look?  Lol I'm kinda flying blind on when to fruit these things.
