I think such fears will be regarded as the silly superstitions and paranoia of the old conservatives in the future generations.  In the past people were afraid of heart transplants, they were afraid of what that would mean for their humanity.  But we moved beyond that and now accept it as commonplace.  In the future conservatives will fight and resist augmentation and computerization of their bodies, and that will be their right that is hopefully respected.  But in the end I suspect such augmentation will be embraced by the mainstream and those that resist it will be as silly as the Amish are to us.

I agree. I just don't like the idea of biotechnology. Combining nature and technology together can go two ways: Fucking Awesome or Fucking Terrible.

Damn man. If it actually functions as well as shown in the video then I imagine it could see real world practical use in the near future.

I mean people adapt to new mobile technologies so quickly now. Forget ten years with a brain implant. Make it more streamlined (which probably wouldn't be hard) and clean functionality and people would definitely use it.

I wonder how well it actually works right now.

Pretty sick though either way.

I hate to sound like a broken record... but regarding technology as something 'unnatural' seems akin to typical christian conservatives and their belief in god's perfect nature and man's horrid corruption of it.  I reject such a notion completely.  Technology is natural.  Making technology it is a trait we naturally evolved though mutation and selection.  Forcing a distinction on nature between 'bio' and 'technology' is not only artificial, its counterproductive.  Technology is biology's latest evolved trait in the game of evolution, and it could play a major part in the future landscape of the earth.  Just as their was a cambrian explosion where life went from unicellular to multicellular, there could be a new technological explosion where life goes from multicellular to noncellular.  There is no reason to assume such a progression of evolution is inherently 'bad' or 'unnatural' (unless your religous, in which case none of this argument is relevent)

I think glasses with ear peaces and a pinhole camera on it or something would be better.

I bet the only technology that really needs improvement in the whole project are cameras.  Smaller, greater pixel count, better recognition software...well that's not really camera tech.

Ah, you don't completely understand my stance. I do not find advancements in technology evil, per se, or unnatural. If man can create it, it is natural within the parameters of man's capabilities.

I just don't think we are ready. Technology comes with problems; y2k scare, viruses, hacking, scammers, etc.

Biotechnology will open a whole new can of worms. Are we ready for it? I am not the man to answer that question. We, as humans, lack the ability to foresee problems associated with actions. We cannot truly understand the implications of biotechnology as a whole, nor to its fullest extent, until we undergo it. Whether we partake on this experimental adventure or not is up to society. I guess I'll go along for the ride.

We may not foresee all problems but we generally adapt to them.
Just like any other advancement that has come it probably won't end up being either the best or the worst possible scenario.

Think about the implications in the real world. A cop can now go up to you and know who you are, if you're on probation, if you're wanted, whether or not you have a warrant, your address maybe, etc.

That would be bad. But if it got into the 'right' hands, we'd know who was a narc, who was an undercover cop, who's lying, etc.

I disagree. I LOVE the idea of the cops being able to see every sexual predator, Vandal, and delinquent without having to even ask for their ID, maybe even have a car-stopping ability for them to stop chases.

I'm a law abiding citizen who takes entheogens in the privacy of my home, I don't have a problem if it gets some crooks. And people caught for drugs, let's face it, they are usually in a stupid place, doing something stupid, or driving(make a silencer). It's like one example I used where some kids were passing my pipe all high over the  seats in a car, even at an intersection. Not that they deserve to be caught for drugs ever, they should be legal and regulated for public safty

That's a dangerous slippery slope man.
I'm not one to be the least bit paranoid about Big Brother kinda shit, but there's always the risk of the line being continually pushed and blurred.

Fuck up once with your private entheogen use and you could find yourself the target of any bored cop who can pull up your information just by looking at you.

That's why I don't fuck up and recite all my legal arguments to people to check their effect. Due to the history here, I don't think this country will take becoming a police state. Having someone's public info(crime info is public)should only scare criminals. We don't have the monarchy background or quite the corruption of government to worry about becoming totalitarian, I mean, our whole history sets the populace against that idea. That's why anti-government nuts like Glen Beck get heard. I'm a bit socialistic though, so I'd like them, our men in uniform,  to be equipped with something to stop people like that guy in Ohio with the eleven dead women.

I'm all for technological advancement, but I think priority should be placed on those advancements that alleviate human suffering. Such an application may result as a byproduct of innovation, albeit slowly if the intended aim overly focuses on product evaluation, looking at pictures, or playing with sense data.
