Securing stacked pint cakes to avoid tip overs....
    #1145881 - 12/16/02 01:46 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I was planning on stacking my pint cakes on top of each other inside my hydra-pod to maximize space efficiency like others recomend. I know how to secure the cakes together with toothpicks but how should I go about securing the bottoms of them so when my monster B+'s get growing they don't topple over due to the weight difference that may be placed on either side?

How about more toothpicks sticking out of the sides of the cake at the bottom. If you were looking down on the cake it would be in the center of an "X" where the legs of the "X" would be toothpicks keeping the cake in the center from tipping over.

I was thinking you could use those bamboo cabob skewers. make a square with a cake at each corner and the skewers holding them spaced apart. then stack the net layer on top and skewer through. Should hold up well and be far enough apart.

If I built a pyramid out of my cakes how could they grow out of all sides? and what would I do if there happened to be mushies growing inside and rot...I dont think it would be viable to take 29 cakes down out fo a pyramid to harvest every time thats a lot of handling. However if I am wrong let me know.

I was always under the assumption that the mycelium will mend togethar with the other mycelium and form one cake. I think this would work, why wouldnt it?

I think your right, Im sure in a few days they will bind together. But if you kept them seperate there would be more surface area for fruits.
