Kill contaminants.

Can you kill contaminants in a colonizing jar with a blast of heat, or cold, that the mycelium will survive, but the contaminants might not? Just curious.

You have to know exactly wich contaminant your dealing with, then search for documents that have studied its termal death points (min and max). If any of the those points are located inside the mushroom temp. range, you can try heating or cooling the jars to reach any of those valid points, then you have to know for how long you have to maintain that temperature so the contam gets killed.
Btw, i think (correct me if i'm wrong) that cubensis mycelium termal death points are 0?C and 95?C.

Thanks for the starting point, I'm gonna do some research and I'll post any useful findings.

Well, green mold's thermal death point is 54.4 degrees Celsius for thirty minutes.

I've heard things about mushrooms growing everywhere in some places during WW2. Even in areas that had been hit with chlorine gas among many other poisons. Couldn't it be possible that one poison could kill a mold but not harm mycelium?

Yes it should be possible, at least until I have more info. I mean realisticaly because of the distance on the evolutionary scale of the the shrooms and contams there should be something harmful to only 1. but figuring out what antibiotic to feed you shrooms, that won't kill them will probably take awhile.

I have heard cold make work better since heat kills mushies easily, but non-freezing temps I saw suggested for damaging contams to give your fun-guys a chance

Has anybody tried putting the jars in the fridge at about 32C for an hour or two or overnight to kill mold?
